We used Overstock.com and bought our bands. She got a platinum band for ~$800(the metal prices took a well timed dip) and I got a titanium for ~$80.

About a year and a half later, she wanted a 'Sparkly' and we used the diamonds from my failed engagement ring and her failed relationship earrings and had them inlaid on a custom white gold band for ~$1,200.

I mean, the diamonds aren't any newer when you buy different ones ~20 years later, are they? We didn't think so either, plus we have a story to tell to our daughter about the ring.

Edit: it wasn't overstock.com but something comparable in price. It might have been this one.
