Ok, I RMA'd a BFG 6800GT a while back and they supposedly sent me back a 6800GT (it said so on the RMA invoice they sent me with the package). It even looks like a 6800GT, it's blue, has the god forsaken copper 2-fan heatsink on it, is DVI/VGA, and uses only one Molex connector (this is the scary part). But under nVidia settings, it's a "6800 Ultra." In ExperTool, the default clock speed is 400/1100, and I can't clock it lower than 390/1090. I mean, it's cool and all but the scariest part is that it only uses one Molex (normal 6800Ultras use two) and I'm afraid it might be not getting enough power or something. Any tips?

Does it overheat? Is it unstable? If no to both, enjoy your RMA upgrade.

The single molex vs. dual molex is a non issue. The dual molex was to ensure stable power so they didn't get tons of RMA's from cards malfunctioning because of power issues. There are PLEANTY of people running their 6800GT's at 6800 Ultra speeds with a single molex connector.

I know that (that's probably why I broke my own 6800GT). But anyway, it's a little hot (60 idle, who knows how hot it gets under load, ~80?) However, I did notice that my CS was chopping like crazy when I tried to play it under pretty easy settings, but I also noticed that the fan wasn't doing its turbine thing. So I downloaded ExperTool and made it do its turbine thing and hopefully it cools down a bit now.

But anyway, BFG probably took a 6800GT and "made" it into an Ultra, so w/e. I'll be upgrading to watercooling soon, I just hope this stupid two fan POS holds up until then.

So I dunno, I wish it were more of an "official" 6800Ultra. But that's what it says in the nVidia thing, so I guess I can live by that.

Actually the funny thing is that it's not even a 6800Ultra OC (BFG always factory OCs their cards). It's just plain old 400/1100 stock speed. HAha I've got some nVidia BFG bastard child of a card. :p

Score! Just ran 3DMark05 and got 5205, it's definately a working 6800Ultra. :) I'm happy.

The fan wasn't doing it's turbine thing? It wasn't spinning? If it's not running CS, send it back, something's wrong with it.
