Whoa, new EQ server is 40$ a month

Wow, bout time someone did this. I always hoped for a UO server that would be $100 a month. Would be to keep out the runts, and allow hardcore playing. Looks like EQ has stepped up and done it. I don't play EQ nor do I want to (beta was enough for me), but this is a good step. Hopefully other games will put up a server for the hardcore and those wanting more out of the game.

I don't know if I could justify $40 a month, but I sure do like the idea of a more exclusive service. I'd like to see Asheron's Call come out with a private server program, that would be pretty cool, something like Sphere for UO.

Yea its good for the hard core with plenty of $ but Myself would never pay more than $15 a month no matter how good it is.

Let's see. Free online gaming, or $40/month? Hmmm...the choice is clear, at least for me. I never played EQ nor do I want to, but I think a lot of people are going to buy into this. A friend of a friend quit his job and left his wife and three kids for some young woman EQ player in the far north because they met on EQ. Other people play it every waking hour of their lives. And that's the reason why I think it'll work for them, as sad as it may be.

The only way I'd ever pay a monthly fee for something like that is if they made some kind of massive multiplayer game based on Middle-earth.

wow I think that's outrageous...of course, some ppl thought $30/year for AT Subscriber was ridiculous, but I paid it...I guess its how much value you perceive your going to get out of something..The Greatness of America - nobody (well in the gov at least, relatives might be different ) tells you what to blow your hard earned cash on

No game is worth FORTY freaking dollars a month. 10 is fine. 20 is even ok. Anything past that is pushing it.

Heck people pay a lot more for drugs, and EQ is easily as addicting.
They are smart to offer it.

I used to play an amazingly good text RPG that did this same concept and charged $70-$80 a month. for the regular server, they offered "premium" accounts for $30 a month. most people had the premium accounts! the game was way more addicting than EQ or UO ever were
