Whoa, MSFT cuts Xbox price $160, current owners get free games and hardware

In Europe 😛

<< Reports are starting to surface of a price drop for the Xbox console across the pond to 299 euros. Microsoft is seeing interest in the console there, but the price is the number one complaint given why people aren't purchasing the system. Gamers who purchased the console in Europe at the original price of 479 euros will be compensated with free games and hardware. For reference, 1 euro is roughly equal to 0.88 American Dollars.

There is a chance that all 3 consoles will see price drops announced at E3 in May as the competition heats up.

Speculation...would certainly help over there. Sales haven't been too stellar from what I've read.

<< Maybe its worth a plane flight over there if I can get a ticket cheap enough. 😉😀 >>

Not to $160, a drop of $160 😛

Still more expensive there than here (close though).

<< nice price for the box but they need to lower the price on games also >>

Hey genius XBox games are the same price as the PS2 and the Gamecube. Any lower and no one makes any money whatsoever

console games are contract priced. all their costs are the same and they're bound by a distribution agreement somwhere to price at certain levels. MAP (minnimum advertised price) is a concept most consumers dont know about.

I think it may be more of an agreement than an actual contractual agreement, at least within each console itself. However, it can be broken. For instance, the company that makes Rayman has set their new installment to $29.99 when it comes out. So, I suppose if MS really wanted to play hardball, they could drop their prices. However, that might not sit too well with the game companies to have MS lower their price points.
