It seems some people would prefer that GM didn't recall and just swept the issue under the rug... like other manufacturers who have the reputation of reliability do. I (OTOH) am glad when a manufacturer addresses and fixes a problem.

No biggie. Not like they're gonna explode or anything.
There have been reports of 134 minor injuries related to this condition but no crashes or fatalities, the company said.

GM makes crap, examples:
- my fathers cadillac deville 2003 was recalled because the gas could potentially explode in the tank, the front brakes went out after only 6,500miles where when you would step on the brakes, the front of the car would shake left and right making it hard to control, it also has major engine problems i dont remember the specifics on that.
- My teachers Cavalier has been in the shop 5times since he bought the car new in Dec 2003, i dont know what for but 5times is a lot of trouble from a new car
- My families old Chevy Lumina 92 went into the shop just about every other week, i remember the AC died after only a year or two, the car would leak huge amounts of oil, the problem would be fixed and 2weeks later it would leak oil again, i dont thnk this car lasted past 100,00 miles.

I said it was going to cost GM Big $$$ (which it is), and that's about the extent of it... I don't see anyone else making a big deal out of it other than you.

My family has owned at least 6 GM cars over the past 10 or so years without any major issues.
