Whoa... is Rome better than Game of Thrones?

Saw that Rome is on Amazon Prime streaming, so figured I'd check it out today... 4 episodes in the first season and this show is excellent. It's like Game of Thrones tittays and violence, but minus Game of Thrones filler.

Why the hell is this only two seasons?

Rome is excellent. GoT is even better on a bigger scale

IMHO

*edit*
I was ok with rome ending at S2. didn't seem to be going anywhere.

now Deadwood getting nixed at S3 -- that was a tragedy. cocksuckers.

rome was crap. after they were picked up for a 2nd season, they were out of caesar's history to mangle, so they made up some bullshit that was even worse. worse than sopranos, about as bad as deadwood but better to look at.

i couldn't understand rome and lost interest.

maybe i need to go back and try watching it again.

what's not to understand? Some Pompous guy is jelly of Little Caesar's pizza so a bunch of people kill each other while girls show us their tittays. Simple enough concept.

Indeed.

But both shows had the same production cost issues. For Rome's sake, I think the writers knew well in advance, and so were able to craft a decent closing storyline to end the short series. I think Deadwood was somewhat last minute, with either some hashed together final two episodes...or it was just cancelled after that 3rd season with no prior notice? I think that's what happened, actually.

I think both were better than GoT.

Rome was great, although I'm not sure I'd say it's better than Game of Thrones. They're about the same, although GoT teases you with all these interesting possibilities but hasn't really delivered on any of it yet. GoT does have some good moments though. Maybe I'd say season one of Rome was better than any season of GoT, but GoT had some really cool moments here and there.

Rome was great, but it did get noticeably weaker after March 15ish. Didn't help that Octavian/Augustus came off as a whiny nerd. I wouldn't say it was as good as Game of Thrones, but it's definitely one of HBO's better series (and that's a network with a lot of great series).

Many of the actors and actresses from Rome made it to GoT too:

Julius Caesar = Mance Rayder
Brutus = One of the Tully characters IIRC (don't remember his name)

There were a few others too. I agree that Rome was an excellent series but I wish they would've had more of Caesar's exploits. I thought I heard that HBO realized that they made a mistake cancelling Rome and were working on another Roman series, but I might be mistaken.

Never watched Rome, but if it's on Amazon streaming I should give it a try.

Some chick just gave some other chick a slave dude as a gift - and he had a huge dong all dressed up with a gold chain or something. I felt a little... well, ya.

Rome was awesome! I have been re-watching it with my wife and I forgot how much I enjoyed it.

Nope, none. None at all. :sneaky:

Hush, you. :p

As for the show itself, it started out great but got very mediocre after Caesar.

And Deadwood got so tedious that I couldn't even finish it.

I think it was better. GoT has too many things that appeal to the common person, like it has a ceiling on how smart it could be. Rome was a joint venture with the BBC, which added that extra production budget and class.

It was meant to run 4+ seasons, but when that wasn't going to happen the second half of season 2 tries to cram a half of a season of ideas into single episodes. But despite that, it is amazing to watch.
