Who would you realistically like to know...?

Ok...remember that old saying..

"It's not what you know, but who you know..."

Well, I know this is a pointless thread to some people, but I am wondering who you would realistically want to know if you were looking for a job... let's say in technology...(since many here in the forums are tech buffs..)

Let's keep in mind the "realistic" part of the question...

There is no way you can say you would want to know Bill Gates or Donald Trump, because obviously, the odds of you ever having a talk with people like them as very slim... So I mean on a realistic level...who would you want to know, or should I say, who could you know? (since most small/medium size company board members and executives are very reachable by just dialing the number of their company's headquarters and asking to be transferred to them...)

Many CEO's and board members are just a phone call away...

It probably would never hurt to give them a call and try to establish a relationship with them and become friends with em....or at the least have them know who you are and what you know pertaining to their company's developments and what you can contribute etc....(just an idea...)

Because "who you know" is what counts...

If you knew Bill Gates or Donald Trump you would also know how to contact them so that would not be an issue. Assuming you really knew them even if you didn't have their personal contact numbers their "people" would be able to get you in touch with them.

John Roth, ex-CEO of Nortel...

I'd like to be able figure out how to bamboozle millions of shareholders, mis-state earnings, and walk away scot-free with a pocketful of cash.

I don't see how it's any more likely that I'll meet and become friends with any random CEO of a smaller company than Bill Gates or Steve Jobs or Larry Ellison.

If you want to meet Paul Allen just join his fraternity at WSU. When I was at the school he went to the fraternity and hung out with the house and played guitar for them. He also played for them to go to a trailblazers game and some of them flew to Seattle with him in his jet.

I've always had pretty good success by sidling up with our company HR rep. They are well connected and if you are cool with them they will help open all sorts of doors for you.
