A great white(a REAL one not Jaws) or a Polar Bear?

To try to make the playing field as level as possible, its just enough water for the shark to swim, with patches of ice that the bear could crouch on. Thus, they both have a somewhat natural fighting environment. They both know the other is coming, thus the shark can't "sneak attack".

Some of my friends and I have been arguing about this for weeks, and its getting intense.

Shark. The polar bear probably wont be able to scratch through the shark's skin. Plus the Shark is probably bigger

Shark latches on to polar bear, pulls bear into water, bear drowns, shark feasts.... the end.

Bear. He'll pull the shark out of the water and that's all she wrote. Might take some damage, though.
Edit, if the bear is somewhere he can stand up in the water.

I think you underestimate how massively powerful a full-size polar bear is.

So basically the shark is swimming straight at the bear and the bear is going to try to smack it in the head before it bites him?

The bear could get onto the ice and try to grab/swat at the shark from there.

Well guys, you also have to take into effect the aggressiveness of each animal. Great white sharks are much more aggressive than polar bears...

...can a shark even piss itself?

I was going to say piss its pants, but that wouldn't work either :p The point being: I don't believe a shark would knowingly attack a polar bear.

The bear doesn't need to break the shark's skin, it just has to hit it in the head and that shark is gone.

You won't believe how many things sharks will attack :disgust: they've been found with things like alligators and car engines in their stomachs.

Alligators are pussies. A polar bear would toss an alligator around like a rag doll. It'd be like fvcking Mario64.

Well, the setup was that the shark knew it was going to fight a bear. Sharks are known to "test" things - I don't think they would have attacked the engine or the alligator knowing what it was

Just wait until it shows up on Animal Planet. (I think that's the channel where they make two robotic animals to see which one would win in a fight.)

I doubt a bear could lift a shark out of the water. I assume we're talking "average" sizes for each animal; a great white is still large, even if not Jaws. Given enough water for the shark to move and not be unfairly hindered, the bear would have to actually swim if he fell in, and then the shark would be at the advantage, due to having better maneuverability and speed of attack.

Of course, the shark would probably have frozen to death by the time it got near the bear. I don't know if the arctic is a natural habitat for sharks (unless the ice the bear is on is rapidly melting).

It might all depend on which of them "flinches" first and makes the first move. The shark of course is entirely not designed to attack a land animal and doesn't have any techniques to do so -- if it tried to shoot out of the water at the bear, it could get stuck on land. The bear at least has the instinct for hunting fish, but nothing nearly that large in that much water. I don't think polar bears hunt walruses by chasing them down underwater. (A walruses tusks might be more dangerous than a shark though, because of the reach and ability to turn the head.)

But I bet the car engine put up a good fight.

So? It'd be fun to see the Bear beat the shark up.
