Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

I dunno what LCMS is.

You didn't have to link to the page, I work there. I'm helpdesk for the churchwide office here in Chicago. Yes, Bishop Hanson is on the top floor.

LCMS = Lutheran Church of the Missouri Synod.
OH 🙂 greetings.

Just in case you think i am just drawing attention, my church is Resurrection Lutheran Church, and i am a very active member in the Youth Group 🙂

So one group's actions define a whole denomination?

 well said!!

If you think thats low...

during the service, the ushers would sometimes leave our offering tray on a table in the big room next to the entrance (which was empty during the service of course)

Needless to say some punk came in and stole all the cash from the offering tray. $120. The rest of it was checks.
Of course, our ushers arent stupid enough to leave it out in the open like that anymore, for strangers to come in and take it that easy, lol.

No. I could list everything I don't like about chrisianity but I am not. As a whole I really despise the christian religeon. But it's not like I wouldn't associate with someone just because they are a christian. I also believe their are good christians who just want to help people. I believe a lot of them are fake people with agendas. Possibly the majority. Thats why I say things like that.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

What kind of people would be able to do that and not feel guilty afterwards. I wouldn't be able to live a normal life knowing i stole from something such as that.

While i would still beat the living crap out of those guys, i sure hope their need was large enough that they felt they had to do that.

I believe their are good christians who just want to help people.

There are good people in every religion. The world isn't divided up into people who believe in God and people who dont; with people who dont automatically being bad.

As for your other comment, the same goes for all other religions. Look at the Muslims, the Japanese during WWII kamikaze. It isn't as black and white as you make it.

Just because some of us are christians, doesn't believe that some of us are blind/bold enough to say that our religion can do no wrong because that is so far from the truth.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

No worries! Everyone has their touchy subjects and subjects they believe strongly in. I could hardly blame you or any one else. Take care

Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, Jerry Falwell, Billy Graham, IMHO those types of people are the ones who give Christianity a bad name.

In that case, you would do well to educate yourself a bit. I'll bet the reason you think "possibly the majority" is the result of exposure (or overexposure) to televangelist types like those I named above. I'm not saying you're tuning in and watching, but that you're seeing static from people who model their behavior like those types. Not just on TV, but anywhere.

Didn't Creed use to be Christian rock at one point before they gave it up for money?

The church I went to when I was younger used to get robbed all the time. Off of the top of my head, I know that we had 2 televisions stolen (one fairly large, the other was only like 13"), two microwaves, one hot water heater (wtf?), a couple VCRs, some assorted small kitchen appliances (skillets, etc.), and more office supplies than I could even think to recount.

HTF do you steal a water heater? :Q

I am Lutheran not Catholic 😉

I think im going to hold off on my Video card and invest in a 27" TV for the church. I feel kinda guilty for missing like most of my offering that i pledged 😱

Just because the most publicised cases are from the Catholic church doesn't make it their sole domain. Perversion favors no one religion.

My question is why does a church need TV's?

I care enough to be pissed off. But not enough to dig. I base my opinion off of real life experience and being raised to be a christian. I am not just seeing some douche on tvn and then judging the whole religeon. I have seen enough to know where I stand.

I don't know. Why does a church need computers? I don't know either, but I spent part of my summer at work getting a bunch of old Compaq Deskpros ready for donation to churches.

Maybe they want to watch something on TV.

You missed my point.

Billy Graham? I've never heard ANYONE have a bad thing to say about Billy Graham.

Okay, maybe not him - if indeed he's not so bad - but with all the other ones out there, I've become a bit jaded toward TV preachers in general.

I'd hope so too, but who knows, maybe they spent it all at the bar that night. I mean a lot of time that's what bums do, they ask for money and then spend it on drugs or alcohol.

Ok, ive answered this question 2x.

TV's- Younger kids for veggietales, prince of egypt; movie night for HS youth, as well as promotional videos, Bible Study, presentations.

As for computers, i happen to be one of the people that run our churches computer lab. We have a wide array of old PII's with Win98 (and one with 2000 and an extra 512mb of PC133 RAM thanks to me 😉). Also, i went out and found the full version of a game called "Exodus" with an emulator to run it. We also use it to play a game called Bible Baseball where we upload questions and they answer them based on toughness.

You would be suprised what we could do given the technology.
