Who would have thought such a small cut could bleed so much?

So I was cutting some wires with a pair of scissors and they slip and graze one of my left fingers, just over one one of the joints.

How much damage could it do? But sod me if there isn't blood spurting everywhere, in my face, over my shirt. It took a good 15 minutes of a vice like grip to stop it.

What did it look like once I'd stopped the bleeding and washed it up? A mortal wound?

Amazing. From the mess it caused, you'd have expected some sort of amputation or something.

DIY project is almost done, but is now working. Needs tidying up though.

15 minutes to stop a bleeding on a finger? What's your medical history like? Any history of bleeding disorders? von Willebrands, Christmas factor anemia, or some form of platelet disfunctions? if not and you've been previously healthy perhaps you should think about getting a bloodwork diagnostic.

That's what I was going to say.

Side cutters would have worked much better for you Mark.

Well it has stopped. Yes, it took a long time. But it must have hit a tiny artery or something, because it was semi-spurting. And, of course, every time I moved

I was actually more concerned with the fact that it right over a joint, and that the not particularly shallow cut was just over the tendons. Particularly so because these are razor sharp 'precision' scissors which work occasionally double as an exacto knife.

The project is a kilowatt-meter/kWh meter. It's a DIN module, so I've installed it in a sub-panel.

I haven't put the conduit in yet, so you can see the wires - the grey romex is power supply and voltage sensing. The other wires are the current carrying wires (2 pairs for 2 main supplies).

That's what I thought. Looked up the Wikes SKU and figured you added in the meter.

When I was doing clinical hours for EMT training in a hospital, a guy came in, half soaked in blood. Must have lost a cup or so on his clothes alone. A window had broken and he was cleaning the pieces out of the frame when one fell onto his arm.

It was a 1.2cm cut. Required 2 stitches. And he came in looking like he'd murdered about 15 people with a fork.

So, yeah, small wounds can bleed a lot.

Yeah, cut an artery, even a small one in your finger and you just can't believe how much it bleeds.

I was hand washing a glass one time, had my hand and the dishrag stuffed into it when it decided to break. I had to go get it stitched. Tiny little cut. They had to make the cut larger to sew up the artery in my finger.

When I told them how I did it, they said that it happens all the time. Usually see one or two a week.

Heh.

Just an update. Everytime i moved my finger, bam, damn thing would re-open and start bleeding again.

In the end, I wussed out and went to a 'minor injuries unit', as I was sure it would need some stitches in. Anyway, it didn't, and it got glue instead. Felt like a right idiot - I'd completely forgotten about glue, and if I'd remembered I'd have got some from a local pharmacy.

Just use some superglue.

Also, hands/feet have a TON of blood moving through them close to the surface. Take a look at the vascular system (google) and the concentration.
