It doesn't make as much difference in a heavier car. My old Grand Marquis would slip a bit here and there, but it was manageable. My old Nissan, however, had problems.

there are three factors.

1 weight of car
2 torque at the wheels
3 width of tires.

if you have like i had, a light car (mustang lx) with relatively wide tires for the car (225's) and a torquey engine (300 ft/lbs of torque) you get very very bad snow performance.
