Texas is currently paying a lot of that contract (IIRC, ~$8-$9M of the total $25M/year). If the Yankees wanted A-Rod out, they could similarly subsidize whatever amount of the contract they needed to without blinking an eye.
His value with fans is as low as it's ever been thanks to the drama makers in the New York media, ESPN included. But I doubt that people inside baseball are swayed by that soap opera BS. I really don't see the Yankees getting rid of him, what better potential option do they have at 3B?
That's not to say that a change of scenery wouldn't do him some good. And some other team could do pretty well for themselves to get him at a discount, and play him at his correct, Gold Glove, position.
Biggest problem with A-Rod is that he has the pressure of performing like a quarter of a billion dollar guy. It's probably the most public contract in all of sports, and since he signed it way back when there's been no one that has really come close to that.
There are plenty of very "well" paid NBA guys and a few in the NFL, but they're usually given to someone who's already proven themselves to be able to lead their team to a championship, whereas A-Rod still has that hurdle to overcome. There are exceptions of course, but add to the fact that it seems like each year there's someone who's contract is topped by another big one, including endorsements and other income sources..there's not as much attention drawn to them.

yankees need to trade for some pitching. The last three years have really highlighted their lack of starting pitching, and pitching depth. Aside from Rivera, there is no one else who is dependable in the bullpen. And don't trade for some 40 year old has been like Randy either.

the tigers lost 119 games last year...the ALDS to them IS the WS.
I loved the celebration. Instead of celebrating in the clubhouse, they took the party to the people. That was awesome. High fives in the crowd and champaigne for the fans......perfect. Tigers > * in the WS.

I actually like what I'm seeing. You don't get that kind of fan involvement from every team... It's nice to see the excitement and such.
Sucks for the Yankees, too. God, they still suck 😀.
