I've noticed this trend among younger Americans. They expect everything to be entertainment. They judge our leaders more on their value as media personalities than anything else - like the the war and the election is just a big reality TV show they can turn off if they get bored with.

Whoever does best in the debates will win the election. Its the debates that will eventually seperate the candidates and finally once and for all put aside any doubt where each one stands on the issues. After the first debate all 527 ads will become useless as well as Rathergate scandals. Cause people will know what each candidate believes in and what each candidate's vision for America will be. It will be all first hand knowledge straight from the each horse's mouth. As a matter of fact, that first debate will be the biggest.

Should prove to be interesting debates, with Bush stumbling as he tries to remember the flash cards he's been practicing at home with Laura every night. :p

heh don't underestimate him. Didn't Al Gore drop in the polls after each debate against Bush? (I think).
Anyway hopefully it'll be great debates as Kerry is supposed to be a skillful debater and Bush will be well prepared.

I still don't think you can use the 2000 debates as a credible base of reference, there wasn't anything even remotely akin to the issues that have come in the last four years to debate about.

All Bush has to do is wink and nod following some kind of mindless nationalistic sound byte and all the right-of-centers will either applaud or shake their heads right before they vote him in for another 4 years.

I digress, there's nothing Bush could say or do that would sway his base away from him. That's been proven over and over and over.

ask again after the debates.
The debates? No one really bases their decision on what goes down in those media events........do they?

I do :(

I mean, it's not more scripted than any campaign event or policy speach. how else are you supposed to make up your mind?

don't get me wrong, I'm leaning towards Kerry, but I'm leaving myself open for Bush to sell me on him.

Well, the good thing is, is that if (most likely) bush wins, he can't run again. Although i can imagine his brother will try to run for president. :( poor, uniformed americans.

Or, Kerry just has nothing to say.

I think Bush will win. I'll be voting for him too but not because I think hes a good president. More like the lesser of two evil's.

Hopfully in the next elections we'll have some good candidates.

Bush definitely outpaced Gore in the 2000 debates..

I know he isn't the best speaker,

But I have seen many people that think he is, and can be strong in debates..

I think they will be able to nail Kerry down on several positions taken, on a variety of issues..

Excited for the debates ..
