I'm guessing Powell is out of the picture. He has been undermined too much by our "allies," the United Nations, and hawks at the Pentagon. Ashcroft may also be building himself an early grave with all these anti-terrorist decrees. I actually think he enjoys crushing people dreams of living in America and working hard (and squishing those pesky terrorists).

Republicans what has he done for you for this country other than destroing 50 years of good reputation we had Abroad with those who actuallty matter? I think I got a measly $1000 more back last year other than that?

-he favors Gun control now
-social security time bomb Looms and is not being addressed.
-pension plan time bomb federal/vetrens/and about 1000 companies will be broke very soon.
-debt time bomb the dollar will deflate because we can't borrow.
-balance of trade is increasing and an exodus of more professional jobs like programmers/accountants are moving to china and india.
-state budget debt time bomb.
-continued loss of unskilled jobs to India and China.
-ton of bad loans to Brazil, Argentina, etc, that will never get paid.
-bubble in the auto industry, and even with the bubble no profits.
- terrorism time bomb (how long before the big one goes off?)
If ,no when, the housing market drops out the economy will collapse.
No way in hell he'll get in in 04'. I doubt he'll win the primarys from his own party.

As the grooming for the future takes place it looks to me like if Bush gets re-elected in 2004,
there will be a major push to have Frist run as the next Presidential Candidate - with Ashcroft as the VP.
That is the direction that the Neo-Conservatives are trying to move our political machine.
Now if that IS the direction that they want to go, Bush would have to be defeated in 2004,
or all the rules and regulations will be re-written between 2005 and 2008 to make it happen.
Carefully watch the funding and spending bills as they take more money for themselves.

Without capital spending where are the jobs to spend all this money?
And If the hightech jobs as well as unskilled continue to make it's exodus to India and China where is the money to be spend.
Also unlike the 70's, consumer debt is crippleing the ability to spend, can Greenspan lower rates anymore? It was relativly easy when rates where 17% to lower them to 8% because NO ONE had much DEBT at those insane rates and could borrow with thier credit worthyness.
Is the economic rebuild of Iraq going to save the US? Is that what we are banking on here. More contracts for HAL, Betchel, etc, etc. Isn't that a drop in the bucket compared to the overall economy? Will those jobs be local or in Iraq, or perhaps even China (where stuff is made)?
I have far far far more questions than answers, but I am very concerend about what 20 years of "thinking in the now" has done to this country and what opportunities and debt my children will be greated to at 18.

Just wait until he "stimulates" the market by investing Social Security in the overvalued phantom market, the small group of people extracting wealth and savings from a large group will continue to grow and eventually loose big time when the next "correction" takes place. Bankrupcy.

He can do nothing without the Congress. Read authorization and appropriation. He can submit budgets, use his political influence to get certain things included and negotiate but the sole responsibility falls onto the Congress. It's all right there in that semi-popular but seldom read document called the Constitution.
You must also remember that the White House budget is the starting point of negotiations. He asks for sticker price and they counter with less than invoice. You get the idea.
