I second the motion that Rock & Roll is not dead, because it is evolving to something new which is the base of rocking & rolling (a mixture of styles and cultures).

The new Corrosion of Conformity album comes out Apr. 5. Sounds like it is gonna rock pretty hard!

Every new rock song they play on the radio sounds the same to me. That boring Incubus, compress the life out of the music sound we have been hearing for the past five years. I don't understand how you can have A) screaming and B) loud, distorted electric guitars and still come off boring.

My guess is you're twenty five or older. There was a study that showed that about age twenty five is when people stop listening to new music for the most part. My theory is that if you've listened to a lot of music, you realize that you've pretty much heard all of this stuf before, and you liked it more the first time.

And I would be most disturbed to find out that John Mayer was anything but adult contemporary.

After OK Computer came out in '97 I thought it was going to be Radiohead. I'm not so sure now, since they've moved away from rock. All the great bands from the 80's and 90's are either disbanded or suck now, and most of the new bands are just flashes in the pan IMO.

It's not so much the groups that has to save Rock & Roll: it's the consumers - if demand is low, so will the output - the supply is there; it's just that no one cares (so they're not being found).

Plus the new bands that are forming (as far as the ones I've seen) are led in by the typical "rocker" lifestyle, not so much the music.

Heh.. I never considered Pearl Jam as "rock and roll". To me, they were and always will be the personification of grunge. In my eyes, "rock and roll" is Van Halen with David Lee Roth singing (listen to the song "Running with the Devil").

Rock or whatever you wanna call it is alive and well, probably more so than it's ever been. :)

edit: I guess that depends on your definition of rock. If all rock is is hair bands and the like, then no maybe not (but there are alot of those types still doing shows though).

Rock is alive and well. The majority of the good stuff doesn't even appear in the US, nor does it originate here. Soul SirkUS is a good band from the USA that I think got published by Warner, but a euro label like Frontiers is where I see a lot of stuff that I like. Outside of Frontiers, check out the band Masterplan and their new Aeronautics album. Probably the best album I've heard in about six years. I believe the label is AFM. nehrecords.com carries most of this stuff for a decent price and is reliable.

Don't worry, Rock 'n' Roll will have revival bands. It's happening with Metal right now. So, I'm sure Rock 'n' Roll will have it's turn.

Montrose
Motorhead-Ace of spades
Frank Zappa-Sheik Yerbouti

Motorhead is playing in a small venue in my town with two other bands... for $20.
