We shouldn't have to download a potentially spyware/virus ridden crack just to have our game work.

If you have the proper protections in place [firewall, malware/spyware/virus protections] then you won't have to worry about it.

I could pull the paranoia card out and say who can guarantee the game itself doesn't contain spyware? Oh wait..it does - SecuROM.. :)

I am so bored of the whiny emo babies constant diaper-filling that they aren't going to buy [insert title here] because of the DRM that I wish they'd just STFU, sell their computers and go see it a hut someplace sucking their thumbs and not bothering us with their crying! :| Blah-blah-blah-DRM-blah-blah-blah...

I bought the game, installed the game, and activated it without a hitch other than I forgot to put the hyphens in the serial on the first try. While the twits have been stomping their little feet and shaking their tiny fists at DRM, the rest of us have been playing it and liking it or not. At least those playing the game can develop some opinions, unlike the complainers for whom complaining is the only game in town.

I don't like these abusive DRM schemes much, but the brats are insufferable these days and with the season for AAA titles upon us, we're going to have to endure one of these threads each week as the next big things come with DRM and the twerps slash their wrists in reaction. Pffft.

If DRM is such a big issue, there's a 35KB exe + 381KB dll crack out there...

Because it also supports the publisher, and they'll just think that nobody cares enough not to buy it. And then they'll look at the piracy statistics, which just went up, and then say "We need more drm to help fix this." The problem gets worse from there.

if you don't buy it, they will go "nobody is buying our game, fuck PC's!" not "nobody is buying our game maybe we should take the DRM out"

I won't be buying, if we accept the DRM in the few titles now, it'll just send the message to publishers that we accept the DRM. That will just open the flood gate for DRM, pretty much all games will sport this crap and who know what other crap they'll shove into their games. If they decide to forget PC gaming, so be it, there will always be other game developers to fill the space.

If this virus/spyware is new, then you're assraped no matter what measures you take (yeah, I know that's unlikely, but it's still a possibility).

That's why we need to also buy games without DRM (or Steam).

Nah. I suggest that the whiny emos just stop crossing the street and run down the block and save the Internet the hassle of transporting their self-pitying nonsense. This is just twerps making a lot of noise to justify their inevitable piracy. "O noez!!! tEh DRMs iz teh h4X!!!11! Ima gonna w4r3z0rz it cos ima gona teech them, a lessen!11!eleven!1!" Bore. Ring.

I won't buy the game because of the SecuROM. I do on occasion, when I feel like I really want to play the game, but in this case I don't feel that strongly. I generally avoid EA games anyway, because of their tendency to release the game before it is polished and then don't spend the resources to polish it after the fact with patches either.

Edit: I just remember that this is an Ubisoft game, not EA. Not exactly the greatest Customer service company either though. I remember back when I was interested in getting HOMM5, and I was really turned off by the way they treated people with compaints on their forum. I had no real interest in the game after that.

I bought BioShock after it went down to $15, so I may do the same with this. The game looks interesting, but I didn't like how installing BioShock on a clean stable system seemed to cause a lot of extra lag. I reformatted when I was done with the game, and haven't installed another game like it since. I'm not sure I want to deal with that again, whether it real or imagined, and it isn't worth researching to find out exactly how the DRM affects the system just so I can have some entertainment. There are plenty of other games that I can play that don't make me worry, so I see no reason to worry about the FarCry 2 DRM.

There is a big difference between Steam and DRM. Steam is actually convenient for most people. DRM is just a pain for everyone. It has no benefits to anyone, in anyway.

What DRM? I only know of The Privateers Basin. :p

I don't see the multiplayer getting big enough, among my friends anyway, for me to buy it, especially with the DRM limitations.

Pretty much.

I guess if I had mommy and daddy around to buy my games this thread might seem like a joke to me as well.

I won't be playing this game. I don't plan on pirating it, either. I loved Farcry and would have been a potential customer if not for the DRM

QFT

I just bought it through Steam.
You'll be the ones missing out on a killer game. I'm very impressed with it.

"OMGFG@@! DRM!!?!?!" Boo fucking hoo.

If by 'killer' you mean 'a standby until much better games come out' then yes, it's a killer game.

Or they'll look at the statistics and notice that other PC games with minimal DRM sell great. This WILL work eventually, if their marketing department keeps hammering on the higher ups.

Yeah, you clearly don't care for all of these whiny emo babies, that's why you keep posting in their threads right?

So tell us, are you a SecuRom shill or what?

I don't have a problem with DRM, what I have a problem with is the invasive install process and monitoring that it does to my system, not to mention the fact that I'm burning $54.00 on a rental, because I truley do not own my own copy.

I do not pirate games, and I do not support anyone that does. I try to buy my games through Steam now, not only because of the DRM issues, but for the convience as well. I shredded all my Valve CD's. I don't need them. But I have seen games on Steam that have limited number of installs, and you can bet my money will not be spent on these games.

Steam, Blizzard and any other MMO have got it right. You register your CD Key with them, and your golden, you just need to login everytime over the internet. Steam does this automatically, and Steam also has an offline mode as well so you can still play all your games. Lost your CD's to install? You can download your games directly from them again. The only downside is when you buy retail versions at your local store you have to activate them before you can play, which is minute inconvienece. Yea I know some people say that you need the internet in order to do this, but if your reading this right now I don't see how you can complain. The internet is not something new that only a few people have access to anymore, its in just about every home now.

And now to all the guys that say "Quit whinning and just buy it". Boycotting and complaining does work. Remember when Sony packaged their DRM on all their CD's that they produced? And remember when Sony caught enough flak and sales dropped that they disbanded it? Yea, I remember, and yea I won't be buying any game that has this type of DRM packed with it until they patch it.
