who will get to 3.2GHz first for a non EE/FX processor?

That probably won't happen for a while, and even if it does CPUs clocked that high will cost quite a pretty penny. You're probably better off overclocking anyway.

X6800...just up the multiplier by 1x and you're already at 3.2Ghz. simple as that.

you can also overclock most of the core 2 duo chips to around 3Ghz as well.

i don't want to O/C, cos i like squeezing as much power as poss into SFF cases, so i want to keep the heat and power consumption down.

Overclocking a Conroe to 3.2 will be the same as buying a 3.2 Conroe chip...

i ran my 1733/333 T'bird at 2000/200 just like everyone else at the time, but i choose not to do so nowadays.

You mean Thoroughbred. You'd be lucky to crack 1500 with a T'bird.

If the voltage is high enough, you should be able to reach 3.2ghz. Mine can probably do it if I pump 1.6v through it (which I'll never do).

you are quite right, i never clocked my 1.2GHz T-bird, it was indeed my XP2100 that i upped.

i want to know this because i reckon 3.2GHz is a nice number, and i would quite like to get a dual-core processor at that speed.

If your talking about a processor based on Core 2 or Athlon 64 technology, this may or may not come to pass, anytime soon, 2007 minimum, no way in 2006.

The 3.2C Northwood is still a nice chip. I know I wouldn't even think about getting a new processor to upgrade my 3.0C if it was possible to get a decent PCIe board for socket 478
