First service I had that offered the web - I think it may have been the first mainstream service to do such was P*.... btw P* is prodigy for you noobs
albeit it was not asked I'll answer anyway
From ~1989 (second grade) through 2000 (when I was 18) I did something similar to this: P*/Compuserve > AOL > P*/Compuserve > Compuserve's WOW > AOL > GNN > IDT > AOL
the reason I bounced around was a mixture of me getting > $150 bills and my parents refusing to pay and scheming for trial offers month to month.
when I first signed up for AOL (around 1992) they only offered 300 baud dialup in my area code (718) - my dad had gotten a 14.4kbps modem from work - it wasn't until they offered 9600 that I realized how great "fast online" was ... it took until 2000 for reasonable broadband to surface in NYC (reasonable meaning < $100 > a DSL connection requiring 2 phone lines and only getting 25k/s... crazy when you think about it.
Pre internet - the best online service was Prodigy I still remember my ID, WWKP36A.
