Why can't people accept the possibility that perhaps god created the earth and set the scientific parameters to allow evolution?

I definitely believe in evolution. Not as the source of life, but how it changes.

As for the origin, I'm agnostic. If it were purely science, I could see the universe as eternal in both directions in time.

Hawkings would say that it is eternal in both directions, but that is just conhjecture from him. No mathematical proof.
