Was anyone else here as impressed as I was by John Kerry's flame throwing speech last night? Perhaps its because I have such low expectations of him but I was really impressed-he was animated, focused, short and on point.

If only he displayed a little more of that fire four years ago.

It would be just as beneficial to ask
"Where was he April 22, 1971?"
Right or wrong, I think that has a lot ot do with him losing in 2004

maybe it's the same syndrome that had biden stuttering and misspeaking a couple times last night: when they are spewing rhetoric that isn't 'native' for them (i guess i should just say 'lying even to themselves') they have to read a script and mess up... when they are being 'natural' (disingenuous attacks and socialist dogma) they wax eloquent...

but this is most politicians, certainly not just the dems...

By your logic then, Bush is the biggest LIAR ever, then.

While watching the speech, I did think that if he had been like that 4 years ago, it would have been a much different election.

I think that when people try too hard to "act presidential" they lose touch with what their strengths are. Clinton, for example, is the same person now as when he got elected.... that's part of reason he was able to get elected.

Do you mean testifying about the atrocities in the Vietnam war? The war he actually served in. The war the chicken hawks avoided?

You mean testifying about atrocities that he never actually witnessed? Or testifying about encountering enemy fire after crossing over into Cambodia (the memories were seared, SEARED!, in his mind) when he never actually stepped foot there?

For all the knocks Kerry takes, he only marginally lost in 2004. It just depends on how much you think the country hated Bush at that time, and if it should've been a cakewalk. I think Bush is a great politician and wasn't ever going to get blown out of the water by anyone.

Have you ever considered posting in a way that was coherent and not exceedingly annoying to read? You might actually be taken seriously if you did.

I wasn't there, so I don't know if he set foot in Cambodia. Were you there? Or are you listening to the swift boaters?

None of the above. Kerry's fellow shipmates, his campaign spokesmen, his official biographer, his official compaign statement on the matter, and his war-era daily journal he kept all seem to disagree on the issue.

From the Washington Post, August 24 2004:

However seared he was, Kerry's spokesmen now say his memory was faulty. When the Swift boat veterans who oppose Kerry presented statements from his commanders and members of his unit denying that his boat entered Cambodia, none of Kerry's shipmates came forward, as they had on other issues, to corroborate his account. Two weeks ago Kerry's spokesmen began to backtrack. First, one campaign aide explained that Kerry had patrolled the Mekong Delta somewhere "between" Cambodia and Vietnam. But there is no between; there is a border. Then another spokesman told reporters that Kerry had been "near Cambodia." But the point of Kerry's 1986 speech was that he personally had taken part in a secret and illegal war in a neutral country. That was only true if he was "in Cambodia," as he had often said he was. If he was merely "near," then his deliberate misstatement falsified the entire speech.

Next, the campaign leaked a new version through the medium of historian Douglas Brinkley, author of "Tour of Duty," a laudatory book on Kerry's military service. Last week Brinkley told the London Telegraph that while Kerry had been 50 miles from the border on Christmas, he "went into Cambodian waters three or four times in January and February 1969 on clandestine missions." Oddly, though, while Brinkley devotes nearly 100 pages of his book to Kerry's activities that January and February, pinpointing the locations of various battles and often placing Kerry near Cambodia, he nowhere mentions Kerry's crossing into Cambodia, an inconceivable omission if it were true.

Now a new official statement from the campaign undercuts Brinkley. It offers a minimal (thus harder to impeach) claim: that Kerry "on one occasion crossed into Cambodia," on an unspecified date. But at least two of the shipmates who are supporting Kerry's campaign (and one who is not) deny their boat ever crossed the border, and their testimony on this score is corroborated by Kerry's own journal, kept while on duty. One passage reproduced in Brinkley's book says: "The banks of the [Rach Giang Thanh River] whistled by as we churned out mile after mile at full speed. On my left were occasional open fields that allowed us a clear view into Cambodia. At some points, the border was only fifty yards away and it then would meander out to several hundred or even as much as a thousand yards away, always making one wonder what lay on the other side." His curiosity was never satisfied, because this entry was from Kerry's final mission.

So first it's "absolutely seared" in Kerry's memory that he was in Cambodia on Christmas Day in 1968. Then, according to a spokesman, he was on a delta between Cambodia and Vietnam. Then, according to another spokemen, he wasn't on the border of Cambodia or in Cambodia on Christmas, but he was near it. Then, according to his biographer, he was 50 miles away from Cambodia on Christmas-- but he went into Cambodia "three or four times" a few months later in January and February to participate in "clandestine missions". Then, according to his official campaign statement, he was only in Cambodia one time-- but not on Christmas. Finally, his war journal makes no mention of crossing into Cambodia (although in his final mission he mentions staring at the border and wondering what lay across it), and his shipmates deny such a crossing ever occurrred.

So you can decide for yourself what you want to believe.

Blame the swift boaters if it makes you feel better.
He had multiple skeletons in his closet when it came to his military service.
So Kerry brought the criticism on himself when he made the decision to make his military service the center piece of his campaign.

Deeko, I'm anxiously waiting to see if this post meets with your approval.

If you really think
that typing like this
somehow gets your point across better,
when really it just
ruins the flow of your sentences
and makes you look unintelligent,
more power to you.
I'm just trying
to help you out.
I'm such a great guy.
