Amazon doesn't work for us and its a rare release (I'd buy the CD if I could). Plus, I think iTunes has a higher nitrate (not sure if Amazon have migrated over to 320kbps yet).
 
The songs only will play on a computer/device authorized by the account that bought the album. Unless you want the person to remove the DRM.
 
Sending copyrighted items over email is so shockingly illegal I'm wondering what is misfiring in your head to even suggest it.

The dude is paying for it via a proxy which is probably better than say uploading at and sharing it on YouTube (which is just as illegal).

A) I've bought over 200 CDs, am a frequent contributor on discogs.com where I buy CDs because I always need the highest quality for my mixes.

B) I have accounts on Beatport, iTunes, Junodownload to buy and download music when I need it. I spend over $400 a month on music.

C) I'm still paying for the songs, it's just that its not available in Australia because the label was too lazy to release it here (given its a rare release and only a handful of people will want it).

D) There's a reason why iTunes have removed DRM from their music. It's an uphill battle to stop downloads. In fact, many artists these days don't care about illegal downloads as they extra exposure and they make their money on concerts and music festivals.

E) I'm in the DJ business, so people want to give their music to me since I promote them.

Music is a very grey area now. I'm confident that I'm abiding by the spirit of the law. There's no way in hell I will get pulled up for this, given millions of people illegallly download music everyday.

You're saying it's "shockingly illegal" to purchase music legally when you have no other way to purchase it in your region?

I know what you mean, and I agree with you that it should be fine in spirit. However saying "I bought this for a friend" is a pretty hilarious explanation if it came up. I'm not saying what you're doing is wrong, I'm saying just the act of sending music over email in general is still not a good idea. Might be better to use dropbox or something and then have them delete it as soon as you get a hold of it.

You said it was "shockingly illegal." I disagree with both of those words.

Dropbox was also my first thought. I can't send a 150MB+ email message.

For the record, this sort of thing is exactly the reason why it was necessary for Apple to work with the music labels to eliminate DRM in the iTunes Music Store. They want to enable exactly this sort of purchase.

Alright, I may have exaggerated for effect. Given that ISPs have been known to give little love notes for such things in the past it just doesn't make sense to go through email with the alternatives we have these days.

You sound like a guy who knows everything. Care to explain why sending music though mediums is legal other than email is legal, while sending it via email is illegal.

yeah, I think you guys are misunderstanding Brandon, here. He's basically saying that it's a bad idea to transfer it this way, due to law.

It's not like he's saying it's bad to put some weed in your car and drive across country if you want, that's fine--it's just very, very, very stupid because crossing state lines = felony.

I don't get your analogy.

The analagous situation is Martingale having his buddy in the US purchase a CD and mail it to him.

It's not illegal for him to buy something from the US. It's only illegal for a distributor in his country to sell it to retailers without licensing the regional distribution rights from Sony.

Its easy to be misunderstood when you barge into a thread as though you're an all knowing expert on cyber crime and act as though someone else is an idiot for even suggesting that files be transferred via email (what's misfiring in your head?). And then later elaborate or backpedal by later suggesting another medium.

I still don't understand stand the legal difference between email, mediafire, drop box, youtube, or the pirate bay as a means to transfer copyrighted material.

We all do things that are illegal. Anyone who claims to have broken no laws is a liar.

I feel like these people who chime in a thread just to scream "it's ileeeeeegal!" are the real world equivalent to the backseat driver who freaks out whenever you creep 0.5 MPH over the speed limit.
