Who wants root-less, undetectable tethering?

Over the last month, I've been working on a new app. Tether Alpha is a USB[2] tether solution for Mac, Windows, and Linux that allows you to use your phone's data connection to get internet access on your desktop or laptop.

ClockworkMod Tether does not require root on your phone and does not require a separate tethering plan. Tether should work with any carrier and phone, and is not blockable or detectable by carriers[1]. To get around the root requirement on your phone, Tether will need to install a virtual network adapter on your computer; so there is a PC side install. [3]

Still alpha though, and may be glitchy. Obviously, he's not responsible if you get a super bill or other penalties from your carrier.

I'm sure someone will make the mistake of thinking the telcoms are stupid.

Then act outraged when they get a big bill.

Tethering should be fully allowed, within the restrictions of your data plan. Paying for 2GBs, you get 2GBs. Paying for 5GBs, you get 5.

but some of them do.

thank god
gnex is stds free

GSM GNex is std free. Verizon LTE CDMA GNex is infected. Try to wireless tether with the stock VZ GNex tether app. VZ won't let you unless you pay. You can tether for free with the GSM version with the built-in wireless tether app.

Its ridiculous that this feature isn't part of the standard data plan anyway... Why don't they charge us extra to have a 9 button? Or how about for a space bar on the keyboard?

The color red on your screen should cost extra too.

PDAnet has worked fantastic for me so far. I have yet to hit the VZW paywall... *knocks on wood*

If you enable masking mode, every website thinks you're a mobile phone, which is annoying (and they insist is unneccessary), but it makes me think it works...

Works great for me on the GN but the speeds are horrendous. I have full LTE bars and I get 0.27 Mbps upload and download.

It does but only GSM model is unmolested. Verizon LTE model, 😀 You're talking about Verizon.

I dont have a lot of experience with US carriers, but I,m getting the impression that their head guys may look a little like this?

That's why wish I could switch to US Cellular. Sure, they charge a fee if you tell them you want to tether, but if you just root and do it anyway they don't care.
