I just got back from my dad's house with 25 lbs of boiled crawfish (crayfish for you non-Louisianians). OMG does he know how to cook em.

I was thinking as I peeled off a tail and sucked the salty goodness from the head of an unfortunate "mudbug": I wonder how many people in AT have enjoyed this succulent delicacy? Well?

FYI this is a crawfish.

Mmmmmmmmm! I lived just north of New Iberia for five years in the early '80's.

I miss me some crawfish... and boudin... and andouille... and fresh shrimps off the boat in Delcambre... and the Breaux Bridge crawfish festival... and fishing in the Atchafalaya basin...and Mardi Gras on 'the strip' in Lafayette...

Talk about...

Crayfish is great.

Yankee by chance?

Wow, you've been here 6 years and you still don't know how to read a profile? I would appreciate in the future if you wouldn't accuse me of being American. *shudder*

I'd appreciate in the future, if you wouldn't mistake this pretentious fuckwit for an American. *shudder*

You bastard!!!
Don't worry, I'm not eating them, that pic is 2 years old. 🙁
Although I'm headed down to NO for my birthday next Friday, maybe I can boil up some late season crawfish.

PS, I see you're in Connecticut, if you're really jonesing, believe it or not, NJ has their own annual Crawfish Fest if you want to make the trek. I went a couple years ago, they actually brought in pretty good LA mudbugs and some guys who new how to cook em. And it's amazing the NO bands they get to play, I saw Rebirth, Marcia Ball, The Radiators and I heard George Porter, Dr. John, the Funky Meters, and Walter Wolfman Washington had played before. Crazy.l

Bookmarked. Thanks!

I haven't seen Marcia Ball or The Radiators in ages. Saw Beausoleil last summer though here. It poured rain this year so we didn't go. I live twenty minutes away from there.

wow, didn't think this would be a popular topic at all.

had some a couple of weeks back at our IBM-sanctioned crawfish boil 😀

Ohh man I love that stuff!!!
I was planning on getting 10 lbs of live ones and cook here but they are hard to get and $7/lbs.
Where can I get them? Planned something by mid to end of July.

Been down to New Orleans quite a few times in recent months, and they are good to indulge upon.

But 25 pounds? Damn dude that's a lot.

Not really. That's only about 4 pounds of edible food. 😉

Can't really fill up on mudbugs. Need to have a mess of jambalaya with it. 😀

I remember when I was litte seeing these little things in the local lake all the time. What do they taste like?

I love crawfish but god damnit, if it's not a PITA for such a little amount of food
It's more about the whole boiling experience with friends & family than the amount of food, IMO.
Buy crawfish & other boiling items & beer.
Purge crawfish...drink beer.
Get water boiling...drink beer.
Boil crawfish...drink beer.
Make beer run.
Eat crawfish...drink beer.
Start second boil (the spicy batch 😉)...drink beer.
Eat second batch...drink beer.
Clean up...drink beer.
Etc.
😉

Used to spend hours during my child-hood summers catching the little buggers in our crick, them releasing them. Never even thought someone would want to eat them.

Crawfish boils are awesome. Beer...crawfish....corn....potatoes. That's one of the things I'll miss about Louisiana (moving to Florida in 3 weeks).
