Who uses FLoppy Routers here? what kind do you use and what website do you use to check your firewall settings?

I think that the title says most of it I'm just kinda curious, and I'm new to the floppyrouter scene...however, I must mention, it's a BLAST TO BUiLD AND SETuP

I use a premade from Freesco for dummies like me
I use Gibson Research Corporation to check my firewall settings...but I won't have a REAL settings check until after we get outta this here skewl

I'm runnin' my router/firewall on a P200 w/ about 4x as much RAM as it needs @ 32Mb. I'm using a LNE100TX Linksys 10/100 and an Acton SMC 10/100, both of which are PCI

Honestly, its not really that much "fun". I did enjoy the concept when I first installed it - neat to see a 386 doing something extremely useful - but its just a box with wires coming out.

Cheaper than free? Doubtful.
Forget freesco, use BBIagent, it's much better.

depends on whether you own a machine that is not being used and is capable of running this software. If that's our situation, then it's obviously cheaper to use this machine and free software rather than buy a router.

Reasons to buy a router:
room
power consumption (I'm not so sure about this one)
asthetic appeal (unless you're an awesome case modder!)

I love those floppy based routers. I've tried them all, BBIAGENT, Coyote, LRP, Eigerstein, freesco and frazierwall. I used frazierwall for awhile but I ended installing a non-floppy based router (Clark Connect gateway) b/c I had a pentium class computer lying around with a 1 gig harddrive and I was dying to try out intrusion detection.

the only thing i hate about those routers is the compatibility with the NIC cards. and i don't feel like buying two new NIC cards.

I am going to get my NICs tommorow or tuesday and will be setting up Linux based server.

I was going to go with clark connect BUT I have a celeron 667 w/ 312 Ram and a 20 GB HD:Q

So I am going to set up with red hat. (just got the book last week.)

Been doing alot of reading on NICs though and I think I may have a good cheap one picked out.
