I've got a GF2 GTS and an MX on a 21" IBM and a 19" Compaq (all thanks to the Hot Deals forum). Just having a larger desktop is SOOOO convenient. My only wish would be that the secondary monitor more capable. I wish that I could watch a DVD on the secondary display, run 3d accelerated prgrams...etc.

Radeon LE on a 19" Hitachi 751, and a Voodoo3 powering a Dell 17".

I use the secondary screen for ... compiling programs, email, extra space when moving data from folder to folder, etc. Anything you'd like to leave running and monitor while not getting in the way of your main app(s).

<< 1 19 inch is plenty good enough for me >>

You say that now but once you've gone dual there's no turning back. I've got 2 19" ViewSonic's I'm using with a G400 and I'm thing of getting another PCI Video card to use a 17" I have.

<< what about using dual monitors for gamning >>

I think until the game developers program games for the increased resolutions or for dual monitor support, we'll have to stick to one monitor. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't come across a pc game yet.

I just installed the Matrox G450 vid card and I had two old Acer 15" monitors sitting round (they are exact same model) It is pretty cool, except the desktop stretches across the two screens, is that how everyone is running their Matrox cards, I was expecting it have one window in each screen. Also the second monitor has a constent refresh line running through it, whats up with that? How do I fix that?

wow, i never thought about running dual monitors, i even have an extra dell 15" lying around. i'am new at this so what would it require, simply an extra video card and an open PCI slot? right now, my AGP slot is occupied with my leadtek geforce 2 MX card(32 MB) and i am running win 2K pro.

man, can't wait to get this setup

thanks in advance,

Dual Monitors? Not me, I'm using 3. :)

Three 21" monitors on a Wildcat and 2 older Permedia 2 cards. Since the Wildcat takes up an AGP slot 'and' a PCI slot, I'm currently using up 3 PCI slots just for my graphics cards. I'm dumping the wildcat for an AGP GeForce card and the Permedias for a single dual head PCI card in the near future.

What is all of this used for? LightWave 3D, Photoshop and Dreamweaver Ultra Dev. I can't imagine going back to a single display........of course I'm probably sterile from all of the radiation.

Jesus I hope your desk is built solid as the rock of Gibraltar to support the weight of that many monitors Red.

Dual here as well. With two video cards and dual processors to match it :)

Since I like to multitask I have plenty of ways to use the extra space. But the coolest is when I'm just wasting time doing research on the net I can have a tv window(AIW) on the other monitor with the news or some sport event.

Not going back either.

I've been using 2 19" monitors on my G400 Max since the early days of dualhead. It's a weird feeling for me to sit in front of a machine with only one monitor now! I would STRONGLY advise anyone seriously considering switching to dual monitors to go with identical setups, meaning identical monitors and video cards (or a dualhead solution like the g400 series). I have a dual setup at work (because I got so used to it at home) with an ATI Rage Pro Turbo 8mb (nice 2d) hooked to a NEC 17" FE700 and an ATI Mach64 (2d sucks rocks, but it's all I had) and a Gateway 17 Vivitron (old school Trinitron), and I can tell you that it can be distracting looking at 2 very different looking displays where quality is concerned. I find myself not using the 2nd display too much because the quality of the video card sucks so bad. Many people don't have as sensitive of eyes as mine, but I can't stand fuzzy screens or low refresh rates, hence my choice of the G400 (best 2d around--BAR NONE). The RADEON VE's screen is nice, too, but for games, you don't get any better framerates than the G400, and the G400's dualhead solution is more polished. I personally wouldn't waste my time with the Geforce2 MX solution either. The 2d sucks (as with all NVIDIA cards to date), the dualhead solution is the lease robust, and your gaming framerates aren't THAT much better. If you're a die hard gamer, build a modest second machine and put a Geforce2 Pro in it for games. My 2 cents...

hello,

heard this from someone that the G400 MAX was slow for gaming, is this true?

also, is it easy to switch back and forth from a stretched screen to split screens?

thanks in advance

I've been running Dual on a G400MAX for about 6 months now, with a 15 and 17. I love it, especially when I am doing a report or something a long those lines. Great from proggramming too.

I have place my monitors about 2.5 inches away from each other, though, because the 15" screws up my 17" when they are closer.
