One thing, do not forget to get the antenna tuned, otherwise your reception will be garbage.

They are good for finding hookers on the road. Brothels in Nevada and Lot Lizards at truckstops.

I think having an external antenna (or the ability to use your regular radio antenna) would be great for increasing your range.

The size of the antenna doesn't necessarily increase your range... most CB's have a range of 1-2 miles with a properly tuned antenna. Tuning requires using a special device which you attach between the CB and antenna, do some calibrations, adjust the length of the antenna, recheck, etc... until you have an optimal signal strength. Having an antenna that is too long/short can damange your unit.
