Who turns off their hard drives here?

If I went to Windows power options and enable turning off the hard disks after 20 minutes or so, is that better for my computer and will that prolong my hard disk life? Someone once told me that its worse for the hard drive to spin up and down, so he told me to just leave it on. But I figure if I turn it off, gets rid of some heat as well as maybe adding lifespan.

What do you guys think?

I leave it on. Since usually if I'm not working with the computer, and its on for a long time while I'm away its because I'm d/l stuff, so the hd is working anyway.

I used to, because i had a WD as a storage drive it was quite noisy and didn't need it all the time, but now i have a new hitachi drive and its silent so no need to power it down.

Just out of curiousity (i.e no trolling), why would you leave your computer on for a long time, if it's not being used?

I always leave 'em on.

I've got a 9.1GB Cheetah I bought in 1998 which has only been completely shut off maybe 4-5 times. (All power outages)

Is the stress from waking up from sleep and spinning up worse than leaving it on?

I leave powersaving on but I'd like to know this too.
