Because if they for example wanted to start charging you for that stream because it is older than 14 days, they wouldn't be able to.

Edit:

<ASX version = "3.0">
<entry clientskip="no" skipifref="no">
<Ref href = "mms://4.19.71.132/wcetv/lon/lon100659_v5.wmv" />
</entry>
</ASX>

Tell your boss to give me a raise! Don't take the credit yourself :p

As long as you aren't broadcasting it or selling it I doubt it's going to be an issue. I don't know what your boss wants to do with it though so I brought up the legal question.

oh, it was our company's press conference, and that file is the news footage of it. my boss (of the marketing department) wants a hard copy of the footage for keep sake.

it's wcetv news footage of the press conference; not the company's own video.

Yeah, but if he calls the network and requests a copy, they will most likely give him one. It will probably be a lot nicer quality than the streaming one as well.

actually, we asked, and they are willing to give us a copy.... but they didn't confirm when they will do so. So I decided on my own to somehow download the footage through "alternative" methods :)

And this is why I'm using MultiMedia Server on 2k3 to host pay-per-view streaming videos. It doesn't create an asx. The only way to steal it is a stream capture, which is beyond 99% of the general public.

If it's playable, it's stealable, digitally. GetASFStream has stolen everything I've thrown at it (non-DRM content anyway).
