I paid $424 last december for an ipod 20 gig (it's a 3rd generation one)...

It still gets used in the car and when I ride bike, so I'd say it was damn worth it even at that price... I use the thing whenever I'm doing something that can be made more enjoyable by listening to music...

I think the iPod Mini isn't a bad deal. All the functionality of the regular iPod, but just a bit smaller and "only" 4gb.

I paid $100 less and got 10 GB more space buying a 30 GB Creative Nomad Zen Xtra instead, works great.

But that thing is also built like a cinderblock. Ipod offers a very good size/storage capacity/price ratio, although now a days there are better deals out there

Sure, and my PC is a boring black Sonata box instead of a curvy glowy ricey Mac too.

I wanted storage and value more than bling and slightly smaller size. If coolness and size is worth giving up space and paying more, then iPods are an OK value.

*raises hand* i meant the ipod mini. i dont want to spend so much money for an ipod that i'm not going to fill up. although the competition to the apple ipod are equally as expensive.

Yeah, the other day I bought a $100 hamburger. It was totally worth it though.

...wait, no I didn't. That would be a foolish waste of money.

I just paid $171 for a 30gb Dell DJ. The iPod was too expensive for comparable storage for me. I like the iPod though (had a 1st gen 5gb), but when I needed a new player, the cost was too much.
