Who Thinks OT was Better Before The Political Forum Was Established?

Give it a rest! It seems to me we just always look for things to complain about in life. We're never content. I remember people complaining all the the time about OT not being the same. I was one of the many that said I missed the politics discussion, especially as the stories got buried. On the other hand, you had people complaining about too much politics and the tension it brought.

The admin decided that politics deserved its own section. It finally came. Now we have some people complaining about OT lacking in substance. That's the point. If you want politics, then go in there. If you want the people of politics, then try to persuade them personally or put in more serious non-political discussions in OT. If politics were recombined with OT, I'm afraid it would get buried once again. Most of the posters in the politics forum won't change how frequently they post in OT, since their interests really is politics and more serious matters.

I think it should stay as it is now. The rules should be upheld too, in order to make the politics forum more bearable and mature.

What in the hell are you talking about? It was the war forum because of the war and they changed it to P&N to satiate all the clowns that hang out there. Now, it is has outlived its purpose and is nothing but a breeding ground for extremists and people who take themselves WAY too seriously.

politics is something people take too personally. we could do without the flames and prejuidiced, emotionally charged crap i see in flamefes - i mean politics and news

i really don't care too much about politics anyway. plenty of other serious things to think about.

Keep them seperate. The only time i've been in the P&N forum is when i accidently select it in the drop down list.

That rule "existed"(rules thread was removed, so it's difficult to know), but was rarely enforced. I'd prefer P&N to be more like the Ars version, active Moderation of flames, ad-hominems(sp), and staying on topic. With it, warnings should be issued and not just outright bannings, theads locked for straying from the topic, etc. One day perhaps.

Millennium, you say that because that's what you do most of the time! You love to engage in ad hominem. You often have good points in your arguments, but they get lost somewhere because you're busy attacking the individuals involved for the most part. The good thing I guess is that you don't discriminate when it comes to attacking people. You certainly do it to mods too. I guess that's something to admire about you (i.e., you're consistent in that aspect).

Anyway, I liked the environment at Ars with the sense of self-moderation. However, Ars is as well changing. People flame a lot now. I see very different people from what I saw about a year ago. Things change at all forums. They can't all remain the same. It would be nice if Ars was still the self-moderated forum with mature discussion, so there hardly is a need for intervention from moderators. I would like to see the same at AT, but I'm afraid the flaming is how it is for the most part. You resign your efforts and accept the line: If you can't beat them, join them.

Nope, didn't miss it. Just don't agree with it. We can all live without "elitist assholes", but I'd suggest we'd disagree on what constitutes an "elitist asshole" as well.

I miss the political threads and I never venture over to the P&N forum.

Well we can agree to disagree. I let my subsciption expire over at Ars and I doubt I will ever go back. I mean it just isn't the type of discussion I want to have... but each to their own.

I like it the way it is. When I want to read flamefests with a little politics and news thrown in, I visit the P & N forum. When I want to read mindless drivel and YAGTs I come to ATOT. I like it this way.
