Who the hell pays a cab after getting OUT of it?

in a movie, a person/character gets out of the cab, then goes up to the cabbie's window to pay him!

i've seen this happen in TV and hollywood movies way too many times, and it's a pet peeve of mine but enough for me to post about it now because i've seen two movies that happened in the same day (i watched casino royale and spiderman 3)

who the hell does this anyway, in NYC if you get out of the cab without paying you'll have hell to pay.

When the cab dropped us off at the rental place in Honolulu I paid the driver after I got out and I didn't have hell to pay.

Most people keep their money in a wallet in their pants pockets. It's a lot more convenient to reach for when you are standing than sitting.

just this week some cab driver over here made 4 attempts to run over his former customer over a $2.00 dispute. i think it was over here. here being hawaii.
