I would never take a 5 year old to a slaughterhouse. Hell, I took a tour to a poultry processing plant while in culinary school and it took me 3 months to eat chicken again. I have no problem butchering my own meats but, seeing the mechanized assembly line process coupled with the smell and noise would put anyone off their feed.

One time, this kid saw a boobie. He turned into a sexual predator when he grew up. Just remember what the MPAA says: Horrific, deplorable violence is okay, as long as people don't say any naughty words (or show boobies)

Anyone have a link to a clip of this?

I was just going to say this.
Where I live its nothing to see a farmer slaughter a cow, pig.

I think some people believe that meat comes from the meat fairies.

Meat comes from the supermarket. It is naturally-occurring in those little styrofoam and saran wrap packages. :p

(Seriously though, everyone knows that good meat comes wrapped in butcher's paper and still has a bit of blood in it.)

ZV <-- Grew up in a place where you picked a live turkey a couple days before Thanksgiving.

did ancient parents shield their children from where their meat came from?
i doubt its really as traumatic as u'd think if exposed at a young age in the correct way. just another fact of life. its probably more shocking the older and more sheltered you are.

in many asian countries you used to be able to buy live chickens.
i watched my grandma chop its head off as a kid. i wasn't traumatized, it was just weird seeing a live chicken instead of one from the supermarket all done already.

If you haven't been to a processing plant, you don't know what your talking about. A butcher, or your granny, preparing dinner is not offensive. An eviscerater (picture a funnel with a sharpened end attached to a huge industrial vac on the wide end) slamming into a dazed chicken sucking out its organs is.

yeah, i helped castrate calves and pigs and helped chop the tails off lambs

that is part of farm life

we had a sheep that sort of became a pet, when one of the dogs tore it up, we butchered it, then we had to eat our little pet lamb

that is how it works, the circle of life and all that

nothing helps a boy grow up more than helping cut out a pigs testicles with a box cutter
