I used it mid-late 90s. So did most of my friends. Then people started splitting off and using Yahoo, MSN, AIM, etc...blah I used trillian for a bit, then realized I hate IMing.
I used it in the late 90s, but it got bloated and started to suck. Then i went to MSN. Now I don't use anything, apart from using MSN as a quick way to check hotmail.
It had some great file-transfer utilities.... they seemed to work better than other options at the time. Used it in early college to send a friend over a gigabyte(!) of MP3's.
my current is 7 digits but I am not sure what it is...my original was around the same month it came out but my email host was bought out and the new company was not forwarding mails.
I have about a dozen accounts I had to recreate due to this. It's sort of stupid to require any email change go to the old email account for approval with no other options.
Holy crap..I haven't used ICQ in about 10 years. Frankly, I haven't given it much thought. I remember the old school keyboard sounds you could set it to make while typing. As a 12 year old, I thought that was brilliant.
14713737, haven't used it since 2000, haven't thought about it for about a year, since the last time an ICQ thread came up on a forum (might have been here, actually).
I haven't used it since probably the fall of 2008, and I didn't much even then. It was what everyone around here started using in early high school (~1997) so I stuck with it.
Haven't used it since college, which was 10 years ago now.
Uh oh!
Edit: Related story: I tricked my dorm neighbor into installing BackOrifice, then proceeded to play the ICQ "uh oh" sound on his PC over and over again. Said neighbor would come over and ask for help on how to stop it.
I still use my original number I got in 1998 (7 digit). I use a very low footprint (like 600k) version of Miranda for my client. This is the only IM service I have for personal use.
I stopped using it around 1999-2001. I really haven't used any IM programs (besides the occasional video conference) since about 2004. I really prefer text messaging, email, and phone calls.
