Well, I went to College for three years. The first three years I lived on campus, stayed year round, and made a ****** load of friends.

Junior year I moved off with my buddy (girl), started dating her friend (girl in Boston), and kinda got "clique" of maybe 5 or 6 people that I hung out with often while still maintaining friends with my old dorm roommates and such.

Now, I moved back up North (about two hours from school) and find that almost instantly (we just graduated two months ago!) I no longer talk to 90% of my college pals --- the 100+ people I knew and talked to every day is down to maybe 10?

This expected?

Of course I have new friends up where I live, so I'm not complaining -- but is this supposed to happen?

Yeah. Hell, I just graduated in May and I talk to MAYBE 10% of the people I knew in college. Many aren't worth the hassle of keeping tabs with. Your true friends from college you'll never stop talking to though.

Yes, its expected.

Only a few will actually put the effort keeping in touch with you.

As you move on, especially to another city, you'll create new circles of friends. The great thing about past friends is that when you do go to another city for a conference/vacation/etc you can always call them up, if they live in the city, and catch up on what happened for the past XX number of years.

Somebody told me to treat past friends like ex-girlfriends: let go.....don't try so hard to maintain the same level of relationship because its just inevitable that people will grow separate and completely different lives especially when they're not in the same area. It just means that you are friends on a different level, that's all.

EDIT: here's a good idea - create a yahoo group or some other group email listing so that you are connected with a whole bunch of people.

for example, a friend of mine created a group email for all of my friends from kindergarten through 5th grade. another group i'm a member of is from high school. another group is from close friends during college.

its great to see pics and see what others have been up to from time to time without the need to personally respond to the group. its voluntary on what you want to share about your life with friends from the past.

I'm still in college, but I'm in my 4th year. I've narrowed down the number of people I talk too. I probably only keep in touch with like 10+ people that I met in college. Most I would consider acquintances. I still however keep in touch with a few HS friends. We've all become better friends since we all graduated HS.
