i ran vista home premium for a bit, it was ok...

formated recently and decided to put XP Pro MCE Sp3 on the machine, i run it on my HTPC too....

it's just so nice and snappy, i love it, and it's a pretty much perfectly stable rock solid OS these days

I had XP on my last system for the longest time, up until last June when I bought my current rig and put Windows 7 Beta on it. I skipped Vista entirely on my desktops. I had it on my laptop for a while but I didn't really like it. Ran like a pig.

Upgraded to Win 7 64bit on my PC.
Also installed on my laptop.

Best damn decision ever made. XP's stability cannot match Win7, the 6.1 kernel is the best damn thing Microsoft has ever done. The little extra touches in Win7 are a damn nice bonus to boot.

Yep, still on XP SP3...probably will be as long as I keep this computer (another 2-3 years I'm guessing).

I'm interested to try Windows 7, but XP does the job for now, and given how little I use my home machine lately, it would be a waste of money for me.

I use it on my netbook. It really flies. I tried linux, but linux was too slow. I think dell still ships netbooks with XP.

Here, home and work. Vista was the 2nd worst piece of crap OS in history (after millenium). It wasn't allowed in either environment. 7 has some promise, but needs a lot of stripping out and added control before I'm ready to greenlight it.

I am still using it on my desktop computer for work and light gaming. My new netbook has Windows 7. I always hated Vista but I think 7 looks promising so far. I have always loved XP because it is a solid and dependable OS...but I may be doing the switch to 7 on my desktop after I have more exposure to it on my netbook. It looks like maybe there is finally something better than XP.

One more here. My PC could run Vista or Win 7, but I've seen no reason to pay for an upgrade. Microsoft has already gotten enough of my money.

I have it on my bedroom computer, and I don't like it much. I want to put Ubuntu on it, but it has issues with my mb. I might fool around with it tomorrow though to see if I can get Ubuntu running. Vista is still my favorite O/S.

XP SP2 on my workstation, Fedora Core on servers, and a few Win2k3 servers at home. Work is all XP/Windows server (NT, 2k 2k3).

Did they fix that boot loop bug with SP3? I have not been bothered to try installing it. I actually pushed it out to some PCs at work while totally forgetting about that issue. Thankfully none of them crapped out. We're not really allowed to do updates though so it only went on IT machines and not anywhere else in the building. I told the L2 guy to go ahead and install it when he has to re image a machine, but that's about it. Getting the go ahead to install IE7 was a big feat on it's own.

We are thinking of possibly going with windows 7 in 2-3 years from now but it's just something that got quickly brought up, no true plans. Due to all the super crappy propitiatory apps we have, it will be a disaster given 7 is a totally different architecture then "NT based" operating systems like win2k/xp. I doubt most of those apps will even run. Most medical apps are huge POS. I'm sure anyone in healthcare will agree, even from users' side.

At home I eventually want to upgrade to Linux. Probably ubuntu but maybe even Fedora. Whether I go to 7 or to Linux, I have to learn a new environment, so I think it's a great time to do the switch to Linux. I'm happy with my current XP setup though so I probably wont be formatting in a while.

*Raises hand*

I'd love to be running Win 7 Pro (got a free copy through my school's MSDN AA program, and tried it out for a bit), but I have some hardware that isn't well supported on Vista or 7, so I'm stuck on XP for now.

7 is NT based just like Vista, XP, and 2kpro. Proprietary apps can be garbage, but just about all real programs work fine on 7.

everything works fine for me...it stays up for months at a time sometimes.... never had any problem booting...

Oh really? I thought vista and 7 were totally different from NT architecture. So binaries compiled for XP should technically run on Vista/7? That's good to know.

Does it also have compatibility mode? I think we do have some apps that require to use that mode in XP.
