Actually, nicotine replacement works too well, simply replacing one addiction with another.

does it? studies have shown only a one year cessation rate of only 20%

I only used to smoke casually.. at the bar, the pool hall, a few friends' places. never got addicted.. just liked a cig. every once in a while. i smoked players light normally.. but since i didnt really smoke, i'd just take whatver most people were offering.. hah... smoking sucks overall... if i thought i was becoming dependant, i'd stop.. never had a problem.

Search the web for articles on long term nicotine gum use. It turns out many people who use the gum to quit are staying on the gum. If they quit the gum they hop right back to smoking, so many doctors are suggesting that they just stay on the gum indefinitely.

I quit 13 days ago. I dunno about the

<< your heart races uncontrollably >>

thing (never really checked my pulse), but as far as the

<< severe night sweats >>

...nope, maybe I'm different but never experienced this. It is a bItch for the first few days though as far as the cravings are concerned. But after the 5th or so day it's smooth sailing. The frequency and strength of the cravings rapidly receeds about this time.

Now I gotta kick the 'chewing on straws' habit. 😀

Why do these Smoking threads always turn into a tobacco vs. pot battle?

I quit smoking.
Bud is good.

mmm

Well, I guess it all hits us differently. I was a 2+ pack a day smoker though, so maybe my addiction was a but rougher.

For those who still smoke, here's a fun fact to help you quit:

Cigarettes contain 4000 toxic substances, 40 of which are addictive.
Probably more in the US where they're even stronger. Numbers courtesy of Stats Canada and the Winnipeg Police Department. 😉

Tobacco replacement is just a way to suck more money from you while they keep you addicted. I just heard a news item on NPR, the other day, saying that one tobacco company has developed a "smokeless" cigarette. It's just another nicotine delivery system, but the tobacco asshole was speaking of giving the user "tobacco satisfaction." He didn't have the balls to call by it's correct name, a FIX! :|

Millenium -- << Drug dealers will kill over pot or the market for pot. >>

Over crack or smack, yeah, but I've known a few pot dealers. If that's all they deal, they're usually pretty mellow. OTOH, that has nothing whatsoever to do with any "deadly" effects of cannibis vs. tobacco.

tweakmm -- << I'm a recreational crack smoker >>

I hope you're not serious, but if you are, you're one fscked up moron. 🙁

You really need to redirect your anger.

Did you miss the tongue after that phrase? And if you knew anything about crack, you would know that there is not such thing as a recrational crack smoker.
I only smoke one thing, and she is very very good to me
😎

Hee hee... from Bloom County:

Bill The Cat Cigarettes! Laced with Aesbestos!
For the smoker in a hurry to get where he was going anyway!
$350

🙂

Considering I've lost three people in my direct family to cancer caused by smoking, anyone would be wise to give it up by any means necessary.
And a fool to ignore the dangers.

I have ventured way into the depths of the underworld of drug dealing. Killing over pot can and does happen. I am not proud of my past, but it is my past.

And thank God for that! It's hard to imagine just how low some human scum have crawled...
It never ceases to amaze me.... the evil some people are consumed by. [shiver]

<< Let me get this straight... Are you trying to deny that there are many murders each year within the black market for illegal drugs, including pot?

Hey, now you're just putting words in my mouth (or keyboard). I never said anything about illegal drugs other than pot. I haven't even mentioned the black market on such substances. I'm saying that murders due to pot are most probably insignificant and are likely much less than they are for other illegal drugs. When's the last time you saw someone trying to grow a cocoa plant here?
>>

Most of the deaths associated with drugs aren't because they are on drugs. It's because the gangs that traffic in them have much to lose. It was the same with alcohol in the 20s.

The drugs affects on users are irrelevant to my point. My point is that all black markets are dangerous, and drug markets are more so because of the pressure our government has put on it. A smuggler/dealer is going to be just as dangerous no matter if he's dealing in pot, or opiates, or cocaine.

<< this thread sucks some major ass.

stop trying to make smoking look cool, because it isn't.

:disgust:
>>

Who's trying to make it look cool?

People who refuse to read an entire thread before making comments suck extraneous amounts of ass too.

I would assume any murders linked to drug trafficing would be under the 'homocide' listing. If you can trust these figures, the number of deaths relating to tobacco far exceed the number of deaths caused by the rest of the reasons given added together.

By the way, someone will almost surely question the validity of the source. Which is the way it is for every source given in every thread. Is there a list somewhere of valid sources that are accepted by everyone?

None of my friends smoke..nearly nonexistant in the California work place. Regarded as a junky/looser "jones" thing.

I smoke, am I proud of it? Nope..Do I really want to quit?..I don't know..
Sometimes, I want to quit other times, no I don't.
I can only say I truely regret ever starting.
