Who says the 512MB GTXs aren't available? :D

Let me take a stab:

ATI releases it's X1900XT.

The X1900XT beats out nVidia's 7800GTX 512.

nVidia's 7800GTX 512 somehow magically start to appear everywhere.

Does that sound about right?

It would sound right if Nv was intentionally holding back the supply all this time before, and had a warehose full of 512gtx's lying around. But if they really are having shortage issues with the mem or for whatever reason, then I dont see why they would continue to manufacture these things at all. If I were NV, I'd just concentrate on releasing the g71 ASAP instead of spending more resources on a basically dead end product.

I have to agree with you munky, unless the 7900 is gonna be later than expected.

remember the msrp for the gtx512 is 649-699.

But ,come monday,(depending on actual benches),the 1900 would be the obvious choice, unless you prefer nvidia/sli

but then why not wait for the g71,unless it's going to be delayed. And if it is,then nvidia need something in that range of the 1900xt and the 512 would be all they have.

Be interesting to see how this plays out.

It's not always tech,price/timing is everything. As seen last round

I'm with munky. The 512 Press Edition was like a Formula-1 team. Expensive, and the only real purpose is advertising. The X1900XT (aka four 1600s duct-taped together) should be a pretty convincing best card. Having widespread availabity of a second- or third- best card makes absolutely no sense. NVidia will wind up losing money on such a proposition, and they're much better managed than that.

The only people who buy the best of the best bad boys are pro gamers (all like 8 of them) and those in dire need to expose their enormous, vascular, hirsute e-peen hoping for peer acceptance. Second and third best is not good enough for either of those guys.

So, as far as gamers are concerned, come Monday:

e-peen: X1900XT(X) @ $550
enthusiast: 7800GT @ $275
mainstream: 6800GS @ $170
low end: 6600GT, X800 @ $100. X1600 may displace the X800 once it hits low / below $100

Everythign else is a niche card, or will take some fancy sales footwork to unload.

What a moron you'd have to be to buy a 7800GTX 512 after the x1900xt is released tuesday followed shortly by the G71, esp if they're still going for $749+

This is an easy prediction to make. Several anandtechers have already ordered X1900XTs for $505-545. From the leaked specs on the cards & benchmark results and common sense, the X1900XT is faster than the X1800XT. The 512 Press Edition's wins vs X1800XT on a majority of games w/ FSAA are pretty slim, so the X1900XTX should either be a clear winner, or once again an arguable winner like the X1800XT.

Now, *TWO* X1900XTs in crossfire ($1000 pricepoint) will beat the living snot out of single 512 press edition (also $1000 pricepoint) on more than 90% of all past and current games, by a very convincing margin. Please refer to X1800XT CF results on the ORB for numbers supporting my theory. It's not a hard prediction to make that X1900XTX will only be better.

What's debateable is whether the 512 Press Edition will still command a $1000 pricetag, or even the $649 MSRP after monday. What's not debateable is that you have be braindead to buy one today for $1000.

I like this guy 🙂

You know what's funny? Some of the diehard Nvidia fanboys originally said that the X1800XT was going to be a Press Edition type card, with low availablity and high (above MSRP) prices. In reality it's turned out to be highly available and was selling for MSRP and below not that long after release. Nvidia, ON THE OTHER HAND, did manage to give us the untimate PRESS EDITION card, the 512MB GTX. Months later and it's still selling for way above MSRP and harder to spot in stock than Bigfoot. Funny thing is I don't see these fanboys berating Nvidia much about it.

At the time it certainly looked that way. For all the world, it seemed like NVidia was surprised by the overwhelming demand for their best of the best card, and would scramble to meet that demand.

Looks like instead the 512 Press Edition was binned cores, of which there were only enough to supply journalists. And a few cards in the retail channel. The whole thing was a blatant move to rain on ATI's parade. Once again, online press were used as patsies.

3 months later NVidia scraped up enough cores to put a few more cards into the channel, but that's way too little too late.

Who would have expected the previously incompetent ATI to pull of genius moves like making their new GPU to be pin compatible with the old GPU so partners wouldn't be burdened with new R&D and could just leverage their existing investments in the X1K line?

Hell, I have to eat crow now because I said there's no way in hell anyone will be able to buy an X1900 before the end of this month. Good thing nobody took my $20 bet.

NP. Just try not to draw enough power to alert the authorities. 😉

Something tells me that the G71 if 32 and maybe 24 ROPS may be press edition as well I cant see them getting such high speeds 750+ on that many pipes . if it is widely available it will cost more the x1900xtx . Form a price point stand point they may have lost the round.

Morph & Munky, you guys are the biggest fan boys I have ever read. Talk about jumping onto someones thread to flame.....LMFAO! Please show me the thread where the NV boys dis your precious new 1900XT, if not I'll start one for ya. Live it up guys, b/c once again NV will produce the benchmark with G71 on 90n process.

Who am I flaming? If you're upset that your precious 512gtx will not be king of the hill anymore - that's a fact, time to unbury your head from the sand (or better bury it even deeper, LOL). Besides I was discussing its prices and availability, not "how much it sux" and "what a piece of garbage it was."

It's this kind of post that makes it clear where you stand. I'm certain that probably has something to do with it.

Common sense says nVIDIA won't be on top after the X1900XTX is released, but bfd, really...it's not an apples to apples comparison at that point, now is it?

Really people, get your heads on straight.

In any case, your 2 7800GTX 512 will still run like a champ.

It's the kind of trolling that I replied to that warrants this kind of post.

What was the point of this thread again?

"I have 6 new cards, you don't."

Seriously, this thread has no purpose other than to inflate your ego further by absorbing the "OMG FAP FAP FAP" comments into your brain. Some people have voiced their displeasure over this, and quite frankly you shouldn't at all be surprised.

Thank you for your thoughts (not really, but hey, you're entitled to your opinion). Some = 4 out of oh....60. I'll take that percentage all day long. The people expressing displeasure are the trolls who can't help but post meaningless crap in a thread, especially in the Video forum. If those constitute a majority to you, I feel for you. 🙂 Hell, Ackmed actually tried to assist in my quandry (not usual for him when it comes to me), and provided me with some very useful information.

Cookie, try to not be a hypocrite, bud. 😉

Oddly enough, it wouldn't have mattered how many cards I received (whether it be 2 or 6), I'm sure the same minute few would have held their little opinions about this or that in this thread, and I suppose I expect that. As far as my ePenis is concerned, I don't need to flex it. I enjoy hardware, and what I have, and that's all there is to it. If that makes other people jealous (or trolls, as it were), then that's their perogative. That's not going to change ME. 🙂

not only that but the title is deceptive because it suggests that GTX 512 is actually available when it's really not . So I guess that was just a joke to attract people to read your "look what I got" thread. But seriously the availability situation of the GTX 512 is not helping nvidia and with the X1900 already available it might get ugly for them. So your new GTX 512 SLI is already not the fastest, just a day after you almost got it to work......I gues you gonna get the X1900 next just as soon as something even better comes a long....it's nice to always have the second best, isn't it ?
