Who says "Cali" (as in California)?

I love making fun of states, shit I make fun of my own : minnesnowda...a lot of states have their own stupid/short/funny names...
 
If you notice, if a word is more than 8 characters long, some (or lots of) people short it down to the first 4, or namely the first few syllables. Happens in names and nicknames too.

I think it's a psychological thing.

i don't think i refer to where i live as cali or california. i just say l a or lake forest depending on who i am talking to. but in statements to people not residents of california, i often say california as in the sentence, "california has the best ganja in the whole world."
 
I have cousins/uncles/relatives who've lived there their whole lives. Not once did I hear them call Frisco "The City".
 
I live in SF and I don't think I've ever heard it being called The City. We just say SF; it's only two syllables.
 
Yeah as far as it goes, this is about all I've encountered for native residents.

Maybe it's a good way to tell if people aren't from here.

It's funny, living in the South Bay area of Los Angeles for 7 years you get used to calling the Palos Verdes Pennisula PV but when I moved to San Diego everyone calls Pacific Beach PB so if it can be kind of confusing because we have friends who live in Palos Verdes so when we go visit them we tell people we are going to PV but they think we're saying PB...which is a night and day difference from PV.

I'm in Asia right now for vacation and we have a few family friends here. They're friends who went to international high school here (grew up in CA but went back sometime before HS) and then later went off to college somewhere in the US. But I suppose somewhere in their maturation in their high school years, they learned to say "Cali" and while they grew up with me before HS, I find it ridiculously annoying that they call our state that.

So do other foreigners or out-of-state people call California Cali?

"Aggressive" isn't the right word.

"Oblivious" is more accurate.
