Who saw the 20/20 on seven threats to humankind? I'm surprised!

There was a special on ABC today on 20/20 about seven threats to mankind. Had Stephen Hawking too! BUT, I was very surprised at #1 and what they were waying about most of FL being underwater in about 50 years if we continue to release CO2 into the air at the rate we are going!! I am in FL! LOL! Anyone can confirm the validity of this?

those are based on computer models were the variables are all controlled by the person running the thing. i'm not even sure if the models can accurately predict the past.

anyway, did it feature a worldwide shift to an authoritarian, protectionist left?

Agreed on the first.

The 2nd...well...seems as if the shift is lead by the right.

Sea levels are rising, and will continue to rise at an increasing rate, even if we put no more CO2 into the atmosphere. No one knows when X or Y area will be underwater though - the models are too inaccurate. The TV shows just take the most alarmist statistics they can muster evidence for.

i dont see why people DON'T believe in global warming.. the facts and evidence is all right there and people would rather believe the political crap about it not happening.
i suggest everyone watch the special whenever you can catch it, on discovery channel, about global warming.
the ice is melting, the CO2 is at the highest concentrations ever (higher than even before the last ice age), and they visually see the ice coverage shrinking. what further proof do you need?
the average temperature has risen over the past century and it is expected to continue to rise at a much faster pace and more ice is lost. less ice = less white to reflect the sun, which means more rays reaching the lower atmosphere to warm the planet even faster.

There was a show recently on either the History or Discovery channel about historical climate patterns. Through the analysis of ice core samples from the poles they inferred that the past 10,000 years or so have actually been a weather anomoly. According to the ice samples (which contain various chemicals which correlate to types of weather), Earth's historical weather patterns are normally what we call "extreme", and what we think is normal is anything but normal historically. It's hard to argue against hard findings like that, it's real chemical samples which are easily dated, not unreliable models. And if it's all true, there isn't really anything we can do in the long term. Volcanos alone have the power to easily change things quickly.

If it's true then we're screwed and can't do a damned thing about it even if we stop generating any kind of pollution.

On Monday a Russian scientist predicted a new period of Global Cooling. Face it, man really knows sh!t about Mother Earth.

And you guys and gals must know that the Liberal/Communist/Nature freaks are simply using the issue to attack capitalism/the rich/SUV owners, etc. Same Marxist arguments, new delivery method.

First: Ice cores show that the earth is a lot more variable and increases in Co2 levels have been happening for more than 400,000 years. These include cyclical peaks and valleys.

Second: We can't definitively say that the increase in global Co2 has been all because of us. That would require our measurement and direct attribution of co2 emissions, which is preposterous.

Third: Correlation does not infer causation.

One theory is that global warming would lead to melting fresh water ice which would then disrupt the circulation of water in the ocean which then leads to dramatic global climate change which is rapid cooling.

IE: The end result of global warming would be a big freeze.

I can agree with #1 and #3, but for #2 how can the global increase of CO2 NOT be man related? Just think about the amount of industrialization the world has gone through the last 100 years.
