The only hope for America is a voter policy of anti-incumbency and criminal charges levied against politicians who engage in the revolving door and any other method of favoritism or gifting.

Bribes are supposed to be illegal, after all.

That's what happens when they (Tea Party) align themselves with the repubs.
Without the repubs hanging on their coat-tails & funding them, they wouldn't have lasted this long.

Even 8% is a not a number to be taken lightly.

I am professionally connected to, and friends with, a guy who is, at the moment, the most conservative member of our state legislature (he lost his re-election bid in November). He has spoken to and been endorsed by local Tea Party groups. He espouses views that are essentially identical to those espoused by other Tea Party voices. That being said, he denies being a member of the Tea Party, and further denies that it even exists. I find this interesting because it illustrates to me that the Tea Party's agenda is one that continues to resonate with a lot of people, not all of whom consider themselves members.

All of that being said, I am glad to see the movement shrinking in influence because I think it's always dangerous to put unyielding ideologues in positions of power. It became clear in the debt ceiling negotiations that these people would happily jeopardize the stability of the world's economy in an effort to prove a point. I found it scary, honestly.

Exactly my feelings with the HSBC money laundering case. Special considerations need to be taken when you are dealing with the world economy. /sarcasm

This is exactly the flawed outcomes that are possible when you deal in utilitarian cost benefit analysis, you slowly lose your identity as you continually sacrifice more and more for the "common" good. What is the best for the most is not always what is just or fair.

CRUZ: 1995 Shutdown Brought Greatest Fiscal Responsibility We've Ever Seen...

The government "shutdown" is required to force Democrats into submission on their tax and spend policy. There is no end to it, so end it by force. This isn't about proving a point, it's about avoiding the next great bubble.

Ideally we'd use secession, split off, then let you do whatever self destruction you're happy with, but until that becomes a reality you're stuck with us and we're going to fight for everything.

Yes, well, you have problems that are beyond the ability of anyone here to solve.

For the rest of us, a sharp decline in the number of wingnuts in this country is excellent news.

How so? They didn't disappear or die, did they? This will only mean that this Republican disease will be denied by Republicans. 'We were nuts for a while there but the Tea Party is dead."

“Based on financial data from Treasury, we estimate that the government will be unable to pay all of its bills as early as Feb. 15,” Steve Bell, senior director of the economic policy project at the Washington-based Bipartisan Policy Center, said in an e-mailed statement Monday. “We have less time to solve this problem than many realize.”

We are running out of money with the rich here and I am the batshit crazy one?

Get them out of here and the country will heal.

Continue to let them rape and pillage the country and we are doomed.

continue to rape and pillage the country with obama's welfare wonderland and wild eyed spending has brought about an imminent doomsday. A low information drone like your self needs to feel the heat of responsibility before you can accept responsibility.

Even if I believed you -- and I have no reason to -- you're a mindless partisan robot and we'd be better off without you.

you have the option of leaving too. Maybe you and the other clown can take a swan dive off the roof. Just think of all the C02 you will stop spewing.
