Who rents a studio aparment?

I'm really considering moving soon. After living with 3 other guys for 6 months I'd prefer living alone. If I'm going to be cleaning up after anyone, its going to be myself...

I'm looking at studio apartments. Anyone here rent a studio? How do you like it?
Looking at prices it would be cheaper to rent a two bedroom with another person and split the rent, but I dont know anyone to move in with.

Any thoughts/opinons on sudio apartments or living alone in general?

Just get used to living in a small space. Also make sure that you dont have too much stuff but other than that it should be okay. Its really great to have your own place and your privacy.

It can be good. Having your own place gives you the freedom to do...whatever, whenever.

Studios are nice but I could never afford a big one. I'd prefer a 1-bedroom I think. Just depends on size and rent.

Tell me about it. I have a single bedroom apt and the rent absolutely kills me.

Living in a studio has it's advantages. Less square footage makes heating and cooling cheaper per month. Less space to keep clean. Just get one that has a regular kitchen and bathroom or you will feel like your living in motel room.

having your own place is definitely awesome!

a studio is ok, just realize that everything is in one room
you are in your living room, bedroom, kitchen all at the same time.
Bathroom is usually seperate.

I'll have to take a look at a couple before going head on into this.
Only bad thing is I'll have to pay around $900 to cancel my current apartment lease.

what city?

i'm lookin for a studio in nyc; not a good time...although craigslist is helping a little

Sometimes the kitchen is seperate too.....

i've lived with 1 roommate, 2 roommates, 3 roommates and 0 roommates.

i prefer living with 0 roommates. there is just so much more freedom having no one to answer to for anything other than yourself.

i'd still much rather have a 1 bedroom than studio i think. but that is me... not that i can afford either. but i don't want to deal with roommates... argh

I'm in a studio apt currently. Kinda small and isn't ideal to have your whole place in 1 room. But it is great to not have asshole roommates pissing you off. I have lived in mine for 2 years and nothing beats living alone.

I would love to have a large studio/warehouse type industrial style apartment. I'd have hardwood floors, completely open space, a lot of windows, and a loft. Unfortunately, that type of property isn't available in my city, and it would be so insanely expensive in cities like NYC that I might as well fuggedaboutit.

My cousin lives in one. It really suits his lifestyle though. He still pays about $1100/mo

Wow, mine's $250/month including water/sewage. 😀 I'm in a small/college town though.

JC, my freaking assessments alone will be twice that.

I used to live in one...was a small run down crap hole one though....had a bathroom + shower out of an RV even attached on to "create" a room....only big enough for bed + desk + TV + minifridge+microwave
Paid only $200 a month including ALL utilz (PHONE and CABLE and ELEC and WATER/SEWER/TRASH and GAS)

I'll add that it was a great place to live though while in college...a little cramped but made for a good little hang out and was only a hop from the bars and campus

In Boston, that will cost you atleast $700/month.

sounds horrible, glad you made it out alive

i used to live in one too..

it was pretty cool... it's just hard when you have a lot of stuff and there's so little places to put your stuff..

it had a pretty nice sized room. i got one of those loft beds so i could put my desk underneath the bed for more space.. also had a tv card in my pc so i didnt have to have a separate tv. it was basically a bed, desk, sofa in my room..

the kitchen was pretty small and the closet was in the kitchen too... i had two of those mini fridges.. one in the kitchen and i managed to get one in the closet... bathroom was actually the only thing that was full sized...

Just looked at a couple. Looks like a could get one for around $500 a month, thats including utilities(though it depends on how much my utility bill will be). How much are you guys paying in utilities? I keep my computer on 24/7 so I'm wondering if that would hit the bill pretty hard.
