Who remembers when memory was ~$40/mb

I remember thinking I got a great deal on my 4mb stick for $160 =/

The performance jump from 4mb to 8mb was amazing though on my 486 system. It really sucked though because the 486 mobo only had 4 slots for those small memory sticks, while my 386 had 8 so I had 4 1mb sticks leftover..

God I've spent so much money on computers over the past decade and a half.

Yup, I remember when I would have killed for a 486 with $1200 worth of memory (32 MB!).

When I was able to get 32 MB sticks for around $100 per stick I bought four for my Pentium 100. At the time it was amazing.

That system is still in use too. Drop in Intel Overdrive (233 MMX), still with the 128 MB.

Did you get your P100 when the MMX's were around? I remember having to get a new mobo because the MMX's ran at 2.8v or something instead of 3.3 which was what the pre MMX ones ran at.

My 166mmx was blazing fast when overclocked to 210. Tomb Raider 2 was amazing with my S3..something. Anyone remember the chipset? Not the Virge, the one that came after it, the same gen as the "TNT"..

Ha, yes. I remember I was 12 or something at the time or so and wouldn't stop complaining that 4mb wasn't cutting it. I kept checking the newspapers everyday for ads on cheap RAM until he finally plunged.

If my future kid does that I don't know whether to be proud or sad..

He didn't have to do it, but I really wanted that much memory.

I remember, or at least think I do :p

We built a computer in the early 90's that I remember and it had that much RAM, the 1GB Western Digital drive was VERY expensive at the time

I remember when memory chips came in a long plastic tube and were in increments of 64KB. ;)

I paid $300 to upgrade my TRS-80 model 1 from 4 K up to 16 K.

300 / 12 * 1024 = $25,600 per MB.

I don't because I am only 16 years old, but the first PC I got which was our family PC was top of the line back then and has 32MB of RAM I think.

Our children are going to grow up, reminiscing of way back when "data was stored on oversized discs called DVDs, and only had 4GB of storage space."
