Who pays for lost packages?

I had a package sent to me that had a status of "delivered." However, I never got it. I filed a claim with Fedex . This morning there was a Fedex driver stopping by to ask me if I'm sure I didnt get the package :roll: I told him I did not get anything and I have not lost any package other than that one ever since I moved here. He said he did put it right at the door and now he has to pay for it.
My question is if the package is lost, who pays for it? Does Fedex pay or does the driver pay?

Likely, it depends on where the package was lost. Since the driver said he delivered the package, and you never got it, he was the last fedex employee to touch the package. If the package was lost at a sorting facility, then it'd be corporate that paid for it.

If the fedex driver claimed he left it by your door, and he's certain he got the right house, then I'd be checking with your neighbors. Somebody probably stole it.

I've never heard that before...who'd want to become a driver then?

I'm sure it's recorded in his performance reports for the month or whatever. Maybe that's what he meant? Like an expression...he'll 'pay' for making that mistake.

maybe he has "lost" too many other packages from places that ship expensive stuff!

So should I just knock the door and ask "Good evening sir/madam, I was just wondering if your kids accidentally picked up a package that was left in front of my door?"
