Not sure whether the own the rights to TA, but wasn't it the same company that made Supreme Commander?

No, just same designer, hence the title Supreme Commander, instead of Total Annihilation something.

I don't think Cavedog was ever bought, they went bankrupt while trying to make TA2. Of course someone bought the IP to TA but I have no idea who, they've obviously jsut been sitting on it. Luckily I still have TA and Core Contigency, but it would be nice to see it on Steam or something, was an amazing game.

I keep my copy (and the expansions) in my CD binder with all of my precious games.

I, too, wish someone would get TA up on Steam

I remember reading in some game magazine (PC Gamer I think) a long time ago that some Korean company had bought the IP rights to TA. The little blurb said they were working on TA2 but that Chris Taylor was making the true successor (I don't believe the name Supreme Commander was released at the time). Of course, I could be imaging the whole thing, but I'm 95% sure I read that.

Google search says a company named "Phantagram" is working on TA2. It was a Gamespot link, which is blocked at work, so I can't click on it. Here is the link.

Ohh man, I spent WAY too much time with TA at lan parties. Like 2 years of my life, a couple of days per week and like half of the weekends .....
I love TA CC.

I have fun with Supreme Commander, but I still like classic TA CC better.

Also, Spring can be quite a bit of fun too .... Spring

w00t...great to see the TA love. the game itself was amazing, but the ease of unit creation kept it fresh. man there were so many talented guys making units. i gotta go hit up tauniverse to see how the community is doing now.

Total Annihilation owns Supreme Commander in every way. What a lame sequel to one of the best games ever made.

It was available for a long time at Purplus.com along with the Battle Tactics cd for about $5 each.

It's always interesting to see when someone who makes one great thing seems to forget how they did it for the sequel.

Just one outstanding element of TA was the music - at the time, pretty noteworthy, the full orchestral score by probably the best PC gaming composer.

I can't think of a game more enhanced by the music, though MMORPG's may be arguable (EQ, WoW)...

I think SupCom is pretty good, but I haven't played TA. I feel I'm missing out on something. Even the intro scene kicks ass.

BTW, I think Atari still owns the rights to TA otherwise CT would have done something with it by now.

Not a lot of love for Supreme Commander in here. Not sure why, it was fun, had good unit variation, and spectacular visuals. The only thing is didn't have was TA's obscene and pointless number of units. Does a player need 50 different versions of the same tank? Both games lacked a decent story line, but I think SupCom had a slightly better storyline given that the playable factions weren't mirror images of each other.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed TA and they're still in my CD wallet. But SupCom improved on the game in nearly every possible way.

Supposedly there is a second expansion in the works. But I haven't heard anything on it in a long time. Haven't heard anything on SupCom coming to Steam in months either. Wish it would. I'd probably pick it up again if it was priced right.

Probably not no. Sup com 2 was announced though so its doubtful another expansion is coming for sup com 1.

Why do people who liked TA not like sup com as much? Arent they basically the same? I never played TA back then so its not clear to me...

Oh also it says on wiki that atari own all cavedog material. So you should probably be thankful there was no TA2 as it almost definately wouldve sucked, at least if atari made it.
