I guess the blood like kalmah says could be an issue for some... but comeon, everyones got that carnivorous predator within them! Just close your eyes and nom nom nom on the taste. Then let me sell you some Sonoma Cutrer RR Chardonnay to wash it down... heaven on earth.

I like my food cooked thank you very much, medium-well serves my tastebuds just fine in most cases.

because its the way they like it?...

A good chef can cook to well done without turning it into leather.

Personally, I can't afford to drop that much on a meal, but $30 is actually fairly low for a high quality steakhouse...

Are you stupid? Do you really even have to ask this question? Think about it for a second Mr. Powers, why the fuck would someone spend $30 on a well done steak?

Because they love ruining something that could have been delicious? Because they could've spent $12 on a well-done steak at Chili's, and ended up with the same thing? Why would someone spend $30+ on a steak when you're just going to cook the crap out of it and ruin any flavor it may have had?

I usually order steak medium well. I like medium, but I'd rather have a overcooked than under. That thing better be done mooing and bleeding before it's on my plate.

Anyone that refers to a well done steak as dried out/charred/crispy/crunchy doesn't know what they're talking about or has shitty cooks.

Sawyer, didn't I say I die a little on the inside?

I just feel like most of the people who have their meat cooked through are under the impression they will die if they don't, and they don't want some stupid waiter telling them otherwise, when they would probably greatly enjoy it if they tried a properly cooked fine cut of meat.

I mean, I don't lose any sleep over it, but I feel like I should be doing more than I am to change the wastefullness that is well done meat.

Plus it takes way longer to cook, so you sit at my table for longer, and get annoyed when your meal takes forever to come out.

Shortly after my marriage my wife and I took her parents out to a good steakhouse to thank them for contributing to the wedding. I just about shit myself when my FiL ordered a New York strip steak, well done, and then asked for ketchup. After that we only take them out for chinese food.

Or that they realize, even when the best chef prepares a well done steak, its tasteless compared to the medium rare steak prepared by the same chef.

my best bud and his wife do. I always jokingly (read: not jokingly) say to the waiter "Hey, tell the chef I don't know these two! hardy har! No, really, please don't give me a shit piece of meat b/c of these two people. Really. Thank you."

Anything over medium-well is a complete waste of time (and steak). I go back and forth from rare to medium-rare, depending on planetary alignment.

Speaking of rare meat, beef carpaccio (sp?) is freaking awesome, as is tar tar. If you haven't tried it, I highly suggest it.

I would have divorced her on the spot.

They ran a special a while ago... some form of tar-tar. Since they get whole tenderloins, they have the tails left over after cutting the tenderloin into fillets, and ground the fillet tails up for the tar tar. Pretty tasty shit.

 I generally don't eat super-rare steaks (usually get medium to medium-rare), but I've had some delicious carpaccio and tartare.

During the training period you get to eat anything on the menu every shift for free. I ate like a king for a week... filets, ny strips, and ribeyes every night.

Now, every time I take an order for a med-well or well done steak, I die a little inside.

I mean seriously, what kind of jerk wants to spend $30+ to waste a perfectly tasty piece of meat? Do they really think that dried out, charred husk of a steak tastes any good?

apparently, since they are paying $30+ on it ...

On the once every few year occasions I eat a steak, I get it well done, and drown it in Tabasco :^P

Yeah this. Plus people's tastes are different, and some people really hate the blood as mentioned above several times.

I used to always have my steak well done, five years ago I couldn't enjoy that anymore and I started asking for medium well.

For over a year now though I have asked for medium, and now if it even got overcooked just a little bit it would taste so dry to me it will ruin the whole dinner. Hmmm... maybe I should ask for medium rare now
