Whenever I think about the act of sleeping it always creeps me out, like we are aliens that need to recharge or something. For 8 hours a day we basically shut ourselves off.

It's too bad there isn't a way to fully rest yourself "unnaturally" by ingesting something that wouldn't cause you health issues.

I need at least 7 hours a night. If I don't get it, I am like a zombie till about 3pm.

Ain't that the truth...in my younger days I opted for some of the "unnatural" stuff for a while, once made it 10 days without sleep...FYI that's too damn long, after a couple days you start to hallucinate and after 7 your mood goes down hill really fast

I tried this for a couple days when I was in college. I made it about 72 hours, then slept for 18. Somewhere in there I bought a new video card.

So unless you need a new video card, don't bother.

When I go too long without sleep, good old paranoia starts to set in. I start thinking I see things out the corner of my eye, or get the annoying feeling that someone else is in the room.
That usually lets me know that it's time to sleep.

Damn crap brain.

After about 30 hours I start to act odd, reflexes are MUCH slower, reaction time is amazingly slow, I also tend to over analyze a given situation, looking for things I might have missed when in reality there is nothing in particular about the situation that is amiss, it takes a good amount of effort to assuage myself that nothing is wrong with any given situation.

I've only ever made it through one night, and I fell asleep about noon the next day. I stayed out in the sun bit too long last weekend. The sunburn is preventing me from sleeping well. I think I probably only got a couple of good hours last night.

I used to work an overnight shift ... it was 7 days of work with 7 day off rotations. We worked about 11 and 1/2 hours for the shift.

During that time, I would often stay awake for 3 days without even a wink of sleep. Got so used to it that my sleep pattern would be ... sleep crappily on and off 7 days when I'm working ... averaging about 4 or 5 hours each day ... then ... not be able to sleep for like 2-3 days ... then finally collapse and sleep for 24 to 30 hours ..

There had been more than 1 occasion where I literally didn't get a wink of sleep for 3 nights in a row ... it was not fun and not something worth doing on purpose. Note: I would often drink lots of coffee so that I wouldn't fall asleep in the middle of the day .. which caused me to stay awake until the night, and then be overtired ...

Anyhow ... these days I sleep a good 6 or so hours every weeknight, and usually get 7 or even 8 on the weekends.

When I was in the Navy we frequently had to go a week at a time without any real sleep while on deployment.

I can tell you right now all those folks who claim to stay awake for days on end without trouble clearly werent working hard.

I need sleep.. Got a call Sunday night at 4:15AM and just decided I'd go into work after the problem was dealt with remotely. Was a long day and I still need another night to catch up apparently. I hate being underslept. Never by choice let me tell you.

No need to test it yourself, there's been a lot of studies. In animals it usually ends in death. And worse of all if you're not careful it might make you fat.

I set my head down on the desk around 10am. I raised my head up a moment ago and the clock says its now 3:09PM.

Should be good until 7:00AM tomorrow morning. :whiste:

Oh yes, I too have experienced mild hallucinations in the past. One time back around 1982, my cousin and I stayed up all night playing Asteroids and I could have sworn I still heard that silly Atari ship firing and shooting at imaginary boulders that were in my peripheral vision.

The longest Ive ever gone was 36ish hours. After that when I went to sleep, I slept for about 16 hours.
