Who needs help?

Been awhile since I ran any DC projects, been really busy and stuff, but anyhow 😉 I now have several decent machines, including an athlon 64 3200+ and several P4 2.4 ghz machines that I can put whatever I want on, who needs help? The only thing I ask is that it is an install and forget project, so I dont have to do any work, since we all know I am pretty lazy. And its good to be back, I missed all you guys 😉

SETI1 with a local queue (SETIQueue on a windows system or JSETIDoor on a linux one) . Fire and forget.
That's what I'm running at work.
All the client are pointing a JSETIDoor machine.
Then, from time to time, I just have to harvest the sub-directory results to bring the results back home.
It's much easier if you have an internet access. 😉

I have internet access on all of them, so no biggie there, I have done seti before so I might just set it back up. Isnt seti 1 ending soon? would I be better off going with boinc? as far as preference, its all good, I've done seti, alittle boinc, rc5,eccp,dpad and UD that I can remember, so whatever. Is UD still going? do we have a team? I kinda like running that, but I didnt like the scoring system back then, seemed you got more points for a completion if the machine was took longer(was slower) which seemed odd.

We still have an active UD team and yes it still scores points the same way. Personally I think UD is the ultimate set and forget DC project as long as you have an internet connection, it updates its software automatically in case there is an update and you can even configure device profiles for the hours you want your systems to run on the UD website so if your away from your systems you can still have control. Third party queues are available but I've never had the need nor desire to use one. Lastly although it's not important to the majority of the DCers here, but it has pretty pictures of the molecules and a screensaver if you desire.

SETI 1 is supposed to be ending soon and our production has really dropped off in the last couple months. Daily averages are in the low 8000 area seemingly so SETI could use help to the end in order to keep 5th place. I am running about half my boxes on SETI 1 and the other half on F@H. I believe that many people that used to run SETI were A) Helping the SETI team during races and to get to and maintian 5th place. B) People that actively do SETI that are helping out other projects to return favors from the past.

Good to see you posting again bot!

BOT!!!!!

Great to see ya!

All TA projects need help! We are rapidly losing ground to BBR in SETI1, and if it doesn't end soon we are in jeopardy of losing our 5th place rank. BBR is also out producing us in SETI BOINC, and we are either trying to maintain our ground or advance our position on the other projects as well.

So pick 1, pick a couple, and have at it! 😀

Hi Bot, welcome back!! 🙂

Nice to hear that you like United Devices! Our team is very active and on its way to catch Microsoft!
You could always run both Seti and UD together, works perfectly.
If you decide to crunch with us and if you have any questions, you can always ask them in the daily UD stats topic, or start your own ofcourse..

the most low maintenance project you are going to find will be seti classic without question. you will never run into corrupted units that hang and cause the app to sit idle, if you run a queue you will never run out of work to crunch, you will have easy access to plenty of stats and most of all you will help us hold off bbr!

TA's CPDN team (the non-BOINC one) is barely moving. And with workunits taking a LOOOOONG time to complete, it's a great project to set-and-forget. Even a decent P4 could sit off-line for a month or so. 😉

Tell me about it my PM 1.5GHz is taking an estimated 700hrs to complete one work unit.:Q That should take forever since it just runs when LHC@Home runs out of work (which is often).

Be glad you've got a 1.5 GHz processor there. 700hours is roughly just over 4 weeks, assuming 24/7 dedication. My slowest box is a 1GHz P3 using pc133 ECC SDRam, so figure CL3 timings... it's coming up on 92 days straight 24/7 production to finish its FIRST workunit!! :Q :Q Let's see.. 92 x 24hours = 2208 hours.

How's that for dedication? 😛

Ok, I think Monday I will set up classic Seti until it ends, then we'll see from there. I seem to remember I can get a decent score in UD by setting the priority lower than the Seti priority so that UD takes longer to complete, so I may look at doing that once things are up and running. If all goes well, I should have 5 or so machines set up Monday, rangin from a P3-800 to an AMD 64 bit 3200+. I just hope I can find my log in info :Q

Just sent you a PM with a little info you might find helpful. 😉

Welcome back to the quest. 🙂
