not really, i think the fuel per item/lb is incredibly low.

per pound its probably immeasurably low.

i thought the carbon tax would end up being protectionist when you account for transportation costs and the carbon intensity of various industries (particularly in china). but these cargo ships, even using the dirtiest, most carbon intensive thing you could still call liquid fuel, still emit less per ton shipped from china than trucks shipping from the next state. they've got trains beat too, iirc.

where is Rubycon when we need her, them cruise ships are pretty big too, maybe we can find out how much it takes to fill one of them up (with fuel)

Ship size varies.

Our ship has approx 4000 tons of fuel capacity. Our fuel type is IFO380 or commonly called bunker diesel. The price fluctuates more than DRAM too!

IFO380 prices are running close to $450.00 U.S.D. per ton. You can figure out what "fillerup!" runs. :D

How many tires (and axles!) would be required on a "vehicle" weighing approximately 185 million pounds?

Where is that ole bag of fleas when you need him?

Well... the Antonov An-225 is the worlds heaviest aircraft, weighing in at max weight 1,323,000 lb... and it needs... 32 sets of wheels?

Yeah those firecrackers!

Imagine how flat someone would be if they rolled under one of those?

Those "balloons" don't give very easily.

yup, is why you can ship 1 dollar cr@p items from china and still make a profit.

Your correction only matters if you give more of a shit about the WORLD economy than about the US economy.
i never said that nor did i try to come off as insinuating such a thing. assuming that you're an american, it seems to me that you're being a a bit self centered and egocentric. i guess it's strange for me as an american to care about the rest of the world? or perhaps i was just of the opinion that as an american, we are the biggest gluttons and many economies revolve around us? i guess that's silly...

May I request both of you to stop trolling and STFU and may I also suggest "AT-P&N - Feed your inner bigot"

hmm... so I guess I must be wrong, if a cruise ship costs $1.8mil to fill up, I guess, $14 mil sounds a bit too much for ANY container ship.

▄ How much bigger can a container ship's tank be? 8 times? I don't think so.

▄ True, a container ship might stay out in the sea longer so may need bigger tank, but I don't think so - think about all the energy a cruise ship wastes/uses for things like air conditioning, fancy lighting, cooking, powering all the other luxuries, I think that would need a substantial amount of fuel.

▄ Container ship fuel must be cheaper than a cruise ships', I don't think a cruise ship can use high sulfur and high lead shit cargo ships use.

So the conclusion IMHO, it cannot possibly cost $14 mil, to refuel any cargo ship.
