2 years and I've had no problem with my Mazda6i engine. Had some other minor issues, like my mirror compass adn 6 cd player stopped working, though.

Ford and Mazda have been swapping parts for the last 15 years or so.

Mazda Tibute=Ford Escape
Mazda B-series truck=Ford Ranger

Go back to the late 80s and the Ford Probe had a Mazda engine in it IIRC. I know the early 90s Probe had a Mazda engine.

Sounds like someone needs an economics lesson. Ford DOES have large stakes in each of the companies mentioned. Not to mention that geology is the study of earth's rocks, not too much help in this situation. A geography lesson, on the other hand...

I was wondering when someone was going to mention the Volvo-Ford relationship. Must not be very widely known.

Also your statement about the mazda being an import, it may or may not be. Just to let you know, many 'import' cars are built in America. Usually, upper-level cars of an import auto maker are made in their home country, they let america build the crap/trucks.

I personally have had troubles with ford components in mazda.

MY1994 was when ford started incorporating their components into mazda and 1994 is when mazda manufacturing started in the US.

1993 mazda 626 has an awesome tranny (made in japan by jatco). Come MY 1994 when mfg began in the US, ford put their trannies into the mazda 626 which was th first mazda to be built in the US.

This tranny was a total mess. NEw trannies did not last 30,000 miles and warranty claim only gave a reman tranny (as other manufacturers do, inlcuding honda). The reman tranny lasted about 20,000 miles.

I don't remember the model no. of the ford tranny which the 1994's used (ONLY the 4 cylinder version). On the other hand the V6 626 of MY1994, which was also built in the US, did carry the japanese trannies.


After a lot of frustration with the tranny I finally got rid of the mazda for $1650.
(ofcourse with a problematic 3rd tranny)

But I do know a couple of people who own the 1994 V6 626, which came with a japanese built tranny still on the original tranny at above 180k on the odometer.

I believe ford changed the tranny design sometime during the later 90's.
