Engadget reviewed the Xperia Z today and came to the conclusion that, not only is the Sharp 1080P screen better overall but it is also more efficient.

IMHO, the one in the One S is better. It is everything you said you want in a screen (minus the bluish tint) found in the Note 2. But the resolution is lower and it is pentile. With the exception of the screen, the Galaxy Note 2 is a hell of a phone.
Dude, dont you tire of bitching about samsung, and their bluish screen sucks? Its really going on too much already. Give it a rest. We all know you hate em so stop bitching about bluish samsung screens. They dont even make them anymore.

Me, I love the oversaturated colors. Like poof said, why would I want a color accurate phone? I hated the screens on the OG droid, all nexus, GX2. They looked boring as all hell. Me, I want vibrant colors. Even if its bluish. I hate looking at a pure white screen at night anyways. Hurts the eyes.

Nexus phones were horribly calibrated. All of the AMOLED ones had a purple tint, and the LG Nexus 4 has messed up gamma.

Now on the other hand have you properly calibrated a screen before? I've done it on the Nexus S and LG Nexus 4. The Nexus 4 looks absolutely gorgeous. Punchy colors, great contrast, gamma 2.2, etc.

The thing is an ACCURATE display is actually pretty damn good. Go take a look at the P-IPS panels out there for monitors. Like that $2000+ NEC 27" or something. When properly calibrated, omg.... Do you even need SAMOLED? SAMOLED is good, but that doesn't mean accurate colors are bad.

The OG Droid you used had a great gamut. 97% or whatever, but that doesn't mean the rest of the display is in order or great. When you properly calibrate a display for accurate colors on all levels, and assuming it's a good display panel, you get damn good results.

If we take this analogy to sound, it's like you're all raving about Dr. Dre Beats and how if it doesn't have Beats it fails. Ugh.

Things will remain the same 'til I change them. If you like horrible colors, that's on you. Most people don't. They're nauseating...

I've had 3x SAMOLED phones in a row. The Nexus 4 is 1st phone since my old S7350 that doesn't have an AMOMLED display. The black levels and poor viewing angles really bug me. No amount of calibration will fix that. I don't keep the clock on at night like did with gnex cause the display is so bright even when most of it is black. It also drains a ton of power.

Yes, my display is sharper than my friends S3 and Note 2, but the Note 2 even with a mucher lower PPI is a hands down better display in Every way. The One X and the iPhone 5 are pretty good, but they suffer from the same thing as the Nexus 4, just to a lower extent.

Can you provide some actual data that supports your conclusion what most people like or is it just random dribble you made up on the spot to support your conclusion ?

I would point the the total sales of galaxy s3 last year as contradiction; but maybe people just like the phone and ignore the display.

I doubt that since you can't use the phone without looking at the display and the can play around with the phone before you buy it.

Just my observation and talking to people that have Samsung phones with oled displays. Most don't like nauseating effects the overly bluish/greenish/orangish screen causes. They say they can't look at the screen after a while and have to do actual work. But, as has been mentioned here, they enjoy the saturated colors. At work, people usually just swap them for Motorolas...

The Nexus 4 is pretty bad in display quality. Yes it's sharp, but the colors are just flat out ugly. Everything is washed out. The calibration does help with black levels quite a bit. I suggest you try it.

I have 2 SAMOLED phones. When I first got the Nexus 4, yeah they were night and day looking more fantastic in terms of colors due to their punchy color. In the past 3 days I calibrated my Nexus 4 quite well though and I can tell you that the N4 is absolutely gorgeous.

For people who have compared the HTC One X to the Galaxy S3, both are gorgeous displays.

When you talk about black levels, yes I understand the S3 will win, but in normal lighting and even dim lighting if you calibrate your LCD, the black is unnoticeable. I'm looking at my iPhone 5 here and I can't tell the bezel from the notification bar. It could be a problem if I'm reading at night, but the glow is very minimal now with gapless displays. I can compare to my IPS OG Droid and its night and day difference.

As for viewing angles, reviews say the HTC One X wins in viewing angles over the S3. SAMOLED displays have always been bad at viewing angles, as angles cause color shifts. Maybe the Note 2 is better, but I don't think it's a One X direct competitor.

So in the end maybe LCD sucks because you can't use it as a clock at night, but if that's going to make a display suck, then well, so be it.

For the record I just played with my SGS2 and Nexus 4. The SGS2 doesn't have color calibration unfortunately, but the Nexus 4 does and is very nice. The colors are just vibrant and deep on the SGS2. I cranked both displays to 50% for reference. Viewing angles on the Nexus 4 win out just a bit.

The way this N4 is calibrated I would think I'm on a AMOLED display too. It's absolutely gorgeous. I had it heads up against my gf's S3 a few days ago and they both looked great. I didn't get to do a thorough evaluation but I don't think my N4 looked bad at all.

Now rewind to November when I got my phone. Trust me, my SAMOLED phones looked better. I was very unimpressed with the N4 and compared to most phones including my iPhone 5, it looked horribly washed out. Calibrate = night and day difference. Don't rule out IPS panels just because you had a bad experience. Pick up a good phone like the HTC One X+ and you'll think twice about this whole SAMOLED dominance thing....

The one-x/evo 4g has a fantastic lcd; the problem is that most lcd are not close to this quality. I think the note 2 screen is quite nice (neutral); I strongly dislike the nexus 4 and nexus screens; the gs 3 doesn't do much for me but i wouldn't rate it as awful.

Anyways the note 2 is actually quite competitive to some of the best lcd:

So yea I wouldn't mind an lcd like the one-x but rather have the note 2 screen than many of the lcd's use in today phones.
